Several years ago I got a gift from my sister of a velvet covered box filled with 24 glass ornaments. They are delightful and remind me of the the few "special" ornaments Mom used to put on our tree when we were growing up. However with 3 cats and 3 dogs, 2 who think they are still puppies, I have never felt safe actually putting them on the tree. I thought of making some kind of wall hanging to display them at a safe distance from the floor. I'd want to be able to remove them and pack them back in the storage box when I take it down. Maybe a tree shape with hooks sewn on for the loops? Anyone have an idea?

What about suspending some from hooks and beautiful ribbons from the ceiling, or in the window frames? We have a large, golden-orange iridescent blown glass ornament that hangs right in the middle of our curtains in the front window, from the rod itself. I always love things hanging in my windows, so you could put those cup hooks in the frames, and hang each ornament (by the ribbon) at a variated length.

Cindy Lou,
It is wonderful that you have such a lovely gift from your sister to bring out for the Christmas season!
How about getting a small table top tree to display just this special collection on? It could sit on a sideboard, hall desk, or a wide, high shelf in a place away from pet curiosity & human movement. I've done this with special ornaments through the years to create smaller themed trees in other parts of my home, in addition to the big tree in the front room.
A small live tree can be planted after the holidays are over. And if you want a fun vintage artificial tree, there are many available for a good price at thrift shops and online. And it could be used year to year!
In the case of vintage ornaments, I always bend the little wire hanger snug over the branch to avoid any of them dropping, just in case!

I have 8 ornaments from my Grandmother - they are 80+ years old and a couple from my Mom as well, that I remember as a child from over 50 years ago. About 10 years ago I found a great branch that I dried, spray painted gold and mounted on a finished board that I can hang on the wall. The branch extends out with several spots to hang my precious ornaments. I use this for Easter as well. The trick is finding just the right branch.

I have several old ornaments also, wouldn't dare put them on the tree with my crew, so, I hang them in the big front window (which only has a lace valence) from the curtain rod with fishing line, they look like they are floating there.

Do you have a light fixture over your table that you could decorate? I weave greenery through mine, and hang some pretty ornaments, too. It's a real conversation-piece at the dinner table, and pretties up the dining room.

I think everyones ideas are great, especially hanging them in the window, but I like to put my very old and special ornaments in a crystal bowl, and just display it, on a table, or maybe all alone on a small table. I have some old pink and silver balls I arrange in a pink hobnail Fenton bowl that has "ruffly" side, put some curly angel hair in it and then the balls. I love that arrangement!! With all these ideas, you'll come up with something!! Just have fun with it!

Thanks for the ideas!
Lori, We don't have a light fixture right over the table, hope to get one moved there but its a ways down on the need-to-be-done list. The Maybe I could try that next year.
Gail, the branch idea sounds gorgeous but maybe for a smaller number.
Nancy, I don't really have much surface space for extra trees, though that would be fun.
Jonni and Suzie, We have a big south facing window, bordered on the bottom by a lot of house plants that might be just the place, now I'm pondering if I'd like to use pretty ribbons or fishing line????
Thanks for the help.
