This may be the same thing we were talking about in another post.
I caught the CNN news clip about the veal slaughter plant closure in Maine.
HALLELUIA!
These poor little babies being shocked even when they are too weak to stand and walk to their own deaths
So, so sad and deplorable
Makes me so relived my own meat comes from folks we personally know
I think there's a special place in hell for injustices done to aniamls AND people.
Sorry if this is incorrectly placed and too strong. It takes a lot to move me, and ladies, this was sick and so sad. |

Are you sure it was in Maine? I tried to find the clip and couldn't and I haven't heard anything about this. I do know that a few months ago we passed a bill banning confined gestation pens.
Nonetheless, wherever it was, thank goodness. I've had friends tell me that they think I'm nuts for raising my own meat. One actually said to me, "I don't want a personal relationship with my hamburger." Well everyone SHOULD want a relationship with their food!
(and you didn't come across too strong--this is a very important subject!)

Thanks.
I was deeply moved and still am.
This and anti clear cutting may become personal issues.
I don't raise cattle, but sometimes wish we could. I also believe in the personal relatioship. It forges a respect. So glad we can get our meat from a friend and not the big beef and pork industry.
We eat very little chicken, but do raise our own for the eggs. |

It was in Vermont, Annab...and yep, even though I have never touched veal in my lifetime, it turned my stomach to almost all proteins, I have to admit. Thank you for being as outraged as I am...

yup.
Same for the trees too.
Only cash instead of habitat, shade and OXYGEN!
But trees can't cry out in protest like animals can
I'm glad that particular operation was forced to shut down. Question is, for how long. The fines in my opinion are never stiff enough to really make people stop. Somebody should have kicked those workes then turned up the cattle prod and really given them a dose of their own medicine |

So, ladies, not to steer off topic of the original thread, but, I do have to add, that if we want to talk trajedies when it comes to the meat we eat, I'd also like to add that horses are VERY inhumanely treated for the drug premarin/prempro. I won't go into detail here, but, I know that I will never, EVER take this drug. The atrocities that female horses have to endure for their urine to be collected for this "medicine" is horrific. In a nutshell, I hope that any ladies on this board will research this medicine and see that there are alternatives. Safe, effective, non-cruel alternatives.
