My son was doing research for his professor. He liked the Brahma because:
Brahmas are gentle giants with feathered legs and feet and profuse, fluffy feathering. These birds were bred for meat production, though the hens lay relatively decently and are great setters and mothers. This fancy breed of chicken makes a great pet for its quiet and tame nature, tolerance to the cold, huggability and sheer chic-ness!
Sharon - That is SO true! My son and I are currently raising two Brahmas and two Salmon Favorelles and I'd definitely get more Brahma's next time. Zeb spends a lot of time with them so they are super-tame, they tolerate the extremes in temp. well and they lay eggs that are pretty huge - usually one a day when they aren't molting. They're beautiful and friendly and just wonderful all around! (Well, except that they seem to want to dominate the other birds but I don't think we'd have the same problem if we'd gotten all one breed, even though I've heard that supposedly that's not true as long as different breeds are raised together from the start)...
Back to the basics...four chickens, two dogs, one boy and a DH
