How exciting!! And it's so cold up there. Now's the time to give the momma the molasis (?) water. Can you tell what they are yet? That's always what I do first, check to see what they are. Can't wait to hear more.

Happy Happy Day!!! Congrats Connie! Looks like you and I have BOTH been blessed by the goat-baby stork this week! I found two brand new kids (Nigerian Dwarfs) on Wednsday morning-- and I didn't even know we were EXPECTING!
Do you know what they are yet? Mine are a boy and a girl. The girl is solid black, not a white mark on her, and the boy is a gold/black buckskin like their mama. She just had kids a few months ago, so I was not expecting her to get knocked up again. I don't even know when it happened. I swear that darned Randy buck of mine can FLY! Can't remember exactly when I penned him up in a REALLY secure pen though, he must have got her just before he was incarcerated, otherwise, that means the two boys in the barn have figured out a way to breed the girls through the panels (which has never happened before) .... oh brother..... Anyway, Congrats again! Tracy |

sorry for the delay in oo but here is wha ti can geln. have girls!! racheal is black with white stipes on both sides of her face and the bbabies are white with black stripes on their faces. i put new born sweatshirts on them and they are too big!! had to roll up the sleeves and the one keeps getting hers off. i have not named them yet. on sunday we will bring them in the cabin for a few minutes and get to know them, then name them. we will also weigh them at that time. i love hearing them hollar maaaaama maaaaama! they freaked hubby out last night when one was yelling her head off, he thought she was hurt or something and ran to check. the little thing was standing about 4 inches from mom just yelling! no clue why lol. sure wish it was warmer so i could play with them! their box is about a 4 ft cube with a very small door in it attached to another box that is 8 ft long X4 ft wide and 4 ft high so not enough rooom to really get in there with them lol. with a red heat lamp its really hard to see exactly what they look like too. will update with anything new as i can. tracy, obiviously he got her about 5 months ago lol! how are they doing? they sounds like such beautiful colors! kris she got her molasses water right away!! peace connie in alaska |

Twin girls! I am so jealous. We just have bucks here. I am happy for you and glad they are all fine. They sound like they'll be pretty girls, too. Have fun with them. I have to wait 5 months for more now. But that's ok with me. It will be warm then!!

My kids ARE cute Connie! Especially the little boy. I had such a "Rainbow" of colors this year and quite a few with blue eyes. I LOVE the blue eyes!!!
Hey, have you tried putting DOG SWEATERS on your kids? They work the best, and come in a variety of sizes. I've seen them at Wal-mart for as little as $5.00. I found out a few years ago how well they work when one of my kids had runny eyes and was shivering from the cold. I was SO worried about her! I had a tiny dog sweater my Chihuahua had outgrown so I figured it would't hurt to try. It fit her PERFECTLY!!! And it wouldn't come off until I took it off. Just one more thing to think about! LOL!!
Have fun with your sweet babies Connie! Hugs to you ALL ~~~ Tracy

tracy, finally got the sweatshirts to stay on them. they are growing so fast! we still have not named them or the baby bull we got last week. i just seem to have a mental block with names this week lol. one of the girls is very friendly and the other very standoffish. i try to get one of us (usually my 17 yr old son)play with them for a few minutes a couple times a day. hubby insulated their box and is not quite as paranoid as he was. *grin* he does still check on them before and after work and before bed even tho our son has already checked them and fed twice he has to check for himself. he ties to be so cool but he is such a softy!! now for the big question, when can i take them away from mom for a few hours to get some milk for myself? i know that her milk wont be in quite yet but need to prepare. what i want to do is leave the babies on her for most of the time but milk her after maybe 4 hours without them to get a little milk for us. i do not want to have to always bottle feed them cuz i dont think my health will allow me to do that. peace connie in alaska |

While I DID buy my goats for milking originally, I have not gotten that far. Maybe in ANOTHER 7yrs I'll reach that point! What I'm trying to say is-- I don't know the procedure for milking the doe for home use and raising her kids at the same time. Kris Sherril (sp last name?) and Grace Garber are the ladies to ask about that. They've both milked goats for YEARS and I'm sure they would have some good tips for you. Sorry I can't be of any help on that one.
I'm still learning myself too! Even though I HAVE had goats for several years. I've tried to get the basics down first-- ie-- feeding, general care, breeding, midwifing etc.... THEN I plan to move on to other aspects of "production." I'm just VEEEERY SLOW at it! (LOL!!!!) I've been raising sheep for 11yrs now and I STILL haven't done anything with their wool-- which was the main reason I wanted to raise them in the first place! Same thing with milking the goats I guess....
I'm so glad your babies are doing so well. They're such FUN aren't they? I hope you get the answer to your question too!!! Hugs-- Tracy
