I was going through a box this morning and ran across an old cookbook from my Gramma's house that I had forgotten about since her death years ago. I hadn't ever even looked through it, so didn't know the treasures it held. It's a 1925 Boston School of Cooking book by Fannie Farmer. The pages are fragile and brown and worn, but the best treasure of all, and I just discovered it today, was that my Gramma literally covered the margins in this book with hand-written recipes of her own! There's no organization to them, she just wrote them down where there was room. I really feel like I stumbled on a TRUE treasure, especially since they're in her handwriting!

Oh Kelly, that is so special. I would love to have just one of my grandma's handwritten recipes. Family issues.... so who knows if I'll ever get anything of hers. She passed this year and I think when I get to missing her if I had something she wrote, made etc.. I would maybe not be so sad. I'm so glad you have this, enjoy it sweetie !

That is truly a TREASURE!!! Good for you!!!
I was able to get my mothers recipe box with her handwritten recipes in it.
Many of the ones she used a lot have ingredient stuff on them from her handling them while cooking. I consider this a wonderful treasure as well!!

I have my copy of Fannie Farmer, my mother's old copy, and my Aunt Ada's ancient copy. It is just such a great cookbook, and to have the old family one is such a treat, the stained pages have the best recipes....

what a wonderful treat for you to find! Just think of your gramma writing all that down trying to cook good things for her family.

| What a glorious find. My mother's recipe box disappeared shortly before her death in 1986 and has never been found - the entire box. So, all we have are recipes we happened to write down while she was cooking something we want to know how to make. I have one recipe from my great grandmother (that my mother gave me for a college project) and one from my grandmother. I would give anything for more. |

I also have the exact same cookbook. Same year and eveything. Grandma also had written in the margins. It is so awsome to be able to have an heirloom like that. I've even used some of the recipes. Had to adapt a little, but great. I'm very fournate to have many family treasures that were handed down to me. Kelly you are very lucky.Tresure it always.

How cool is that Laurie? I think of Gramma every time I use one of her recipes. Now I have a whole book she's written in! By the way, I sent out your Christmas apron for the swap yesterday! :)

I too have that cookbook, but I'll have to check the year. It came from my DH mother, who passed many, many years ago. I'm almost afraid to use it, the pages, like yours are so yellow and worn. I was fortunate enough to inherit all my mom's old recipes (and she could cook!!), and just went through all of them a few weeks ago, kept lots of them, and gave lots of them to my SIL.....we commented on the fact there were spatters and stains on many of them and also that it just added more "specialness" to them!!I am sure you are treasuring that cookbook!!!
