Hi everyone. I just wanted to thank Cycling Farm Girl for organizing this. Though I am not a participant, it really looks like a good and fun thing to participate in and doesnt really require a daunting committment. Yes life happens and things fall through but at the very least contact the people that need to be contacted so other arrangements can be made so no one is left feeling sad or worse. This is a great idea! Maybe this one can be adjusted to sign up for each issue. However that would take more work on the Managing Sister, just an idea.

Let's not let the fun get away from us! Gail, you are getting something, gal! And I will send to others, if they email me. We are farmgirls!

We have had some farm girls interested in signing up for Farm Friends (rules below). Here is what I propose...
For those of you who are new and wishing to join, simply post on this forum that you are interested in a farm friend and those on this site can reply and you can send emails/snail mail back and forth...like pen pals!
For those of you already enrolled and wishing to drop out (as some have already done due to hardships, etc) please post on this forum that you are dropping out and wish to put up the name of your current farm friend to be 'picked up' by someone else. Be sure to post the name only (not the full address) of the gal you had and anyone here that reads your post and is interested in picking up the dropped name, will simply send that dropped name an email from this forum (you'll find her by name in the membership area). They will email her or post to her, expressing an interest in becoming her new farm friend. If she is indeed interested, she can then email her address to her brand new farm friend!
This will be more fun I think...less confusion and less work for this urban farm girl/law student!
Here are the general rules if you need them:
1. The MJF Farm Friend will begin on every new magazine issue - example: the spring issue you should have received in the mail already or fairly soon - just browse the magazine and base your gift on the main themes of the current issue.
2. Within 2-4 weeks for each issue, hunt around for a gift or make one yourself (you may need the full 4 weeks which is why I gave that for a timeline). Please do not spend more than $10.00 which includes shipping. Here's an example: one issue was 'preserving the harvest'. I may send out a little charming jar with preserve making items in it, hard to find teas with a small jar of honey, or a pumpkin candle, etc. In the barnquilts issue, well...the sky's the limit on that one! A quilt piece, a quilting how-to book, or a small sewing kit..etc.
3. With your gift, send a little note or letter, as hand written letters are so rare these days! This is the real gift!
4. If you wish to discontinue with your farm friend, please contact them directly, and don't forget to post her name only on this forum.
It's amazing how fast relationships develop! I love it!
Thanks everyone, and have fun!!

Carrie, this sounds like fun. I just got my issue and am interested in a farm friend. I am putting my hat into the ring. You gave several suggestions, but could you give a couple with the new issue, so I get the hint and don't screw up? Thank you very much!

Hi Claudia, I guess if we want to become farm friends, according to the rules on page 11 at the top of the page I guess we can become friends, is this right Carrie? My old friend doesn't seem to want to participate after repeated emails from me. So may I take on a new friend? Toni |

In reply to your latest post Toni, yes that's correct, you can join up with anyone else who is willing to be your farm friend via this post page. Just send your mailing address to Claudia. I'm sorry the other gal wasn't interested, but Claudia is pretty 'stoked' about taking over. Thanks so much Claudia! Anyone else willing to join up...it looks like Dianne is interested in a farm friend exchange as well!

Hey Farm Friend Farmgirls . . . HELP!!
I'm trying to help "Ga Girl" . . . Karen Fincher . . . out with communication, etc. If you don't know, she lost her house and her computer in a fire just before Christmas.
Anyway . . . which Farm Friend Farmgirl RECEIVES from Karen?
Could you let me know and email me your mailing address please? Then I can get that info to her.
THANKS MUCH!!! CJ

CJ I don't believe anyone knows who their farm friend is unless she has already sent to them. You may need to email Carrie direct. Tell Karen that she and her family are in my prayers.

Hey Miss Antoinette!!!!!!
I was overwhelmed when I received your package. Wow! It is so very beautiful and just the right thing. I am amazed at what you did. I will have to work hard to be as talented & clever!! I loved your note, and feel so privileged to be your Farm Girl Friend.
I will let you know when I mail your package. It may be tomorrow or Saturday. Monday is a holiday, but anyway, will let you know. Again, thank you so much!
