ceejay, I have to chime in here also, so glad you got your batteries charged, sounds like you had lots of fun, family, farmgirls, etc. So sorry about some of the family issues, but whatever changes YOU have coming this new year, I hope they will make you happy and give you a little more time~~
big hugs and loves~~

BIL is taking sister back to Denver next week for followup visits with the hip surgeon specialist who did repair surgery in Dec. 2009 and the infectious disease specialist who was treating her staph infection they identified during her surgery.
Please pray for their travels . . . 400 miles one way over at least 3 major Colorado mountain passes. And for her to be in as good as shape as possible. And for her return home and readjustment to go smoothly.

From time to time she engages in reasonable conversation. Sometimes she will laugh. Her walking was already very, very poor, but it is worse. She has terrible balance and focus and usually is a major operation to get her taken care of.
I worked 4 shifts this week (11 hr. shifts) and my lower back and my neck have been in and out of strain and ache . . . I'm off tomorrow then work Monday. They leave Tuesday and I'm off for 6 days.

I am now eligible to receive Social Security retirement benefits. Because I'm not "full retirement age", if I continue to work I will be able to earn a maximum gross income. That means I will be cutting my hours in half. I'm okay with that because I NEED to do that. So, my time in caregiving for my sister will be less . . and I hope that I can make this all "fit together" with part-time income, my hubby's SS benefit, my SS benefit and my PERA benefit.

It remains to be seen if I can still continue to do this work as it is WEARING ON ME . . . emotionally, mentally and physically.
So your prayers in this regard would be appreciated as well.

THANKS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS and ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!

ceejay, you certainly DO need to cut your hours, I think it's time to think of you a little bit, and take care of you, a little bit, and leave some of your sis' care to others. I'm sure there is always a question as to whether or not "it will work" financially, but please, think of yourself. I think you may be the type who has always put others before you. Now, it's your turn!! I pray that the trip goes well, that the return trip goes well, and that all works out the way it should, for you, my friend!!! Always thinking of you~~

Just a little addendum:
I had made a statement about family issues and I don't plan to get into the details. I think there was some hope that things would resolve. I know this is very vague, but it's all I can say. The family issues involving MY siblings are ALL centered around my sister that I care for. It is painful and disappointing! And that is only exacerbated by the fact that I do NOT see this changing at all.

The issues with my MIL and hubby's brother and his family are pretty much centered around other stuff. I don't see much hope for any resolution here either. We've tried . . but are hitting a BRICK WALL!!!

Issues with my SIL are of greater concern, but also have the most hope of changing. But this sucks the life outta me!!!

Some days I just want to get my stuff, my doggie and run away!!! I CAN tell you that my hubby, other than being kinda messy in the house, is NOT an issue . . .I THANK THE LORD FOR HIM!!!!

And, I THANK THE LORD FOR YOU WHO PRAY, ENCOURAGE and SUPPORT!!

CJ, I am so sorry you are going through so much family issues. On both sides too. I hope you can get things worked all. You do not need this added strain in your life. I will be thinking of you and saying prayers too.

CJ, my dear friend, you deserve a break. I hope that you can manage with the cut down hours. I hope you can do something just for you. Maybe we can get together one of these days.

CJ, You are in my heart and prayers. Praying for a good trip for your sister, rest for you, peace in your family. You have so much going on in your life - way too much, and so much negative. Praying for positive outcomes, for all.

They made it safely to Denver yesterday. Why my BIL took the LONGEST ROUTE in Colorado and down the I-70 corridor in the winter . . COLORADO WINTER . . . well it's beyond me. That is the LAST choice I would have made. And my sister got carsick . .

But I'm thankful for God's hand and grace in getting them there.
Her followup apppointments are today and then they head back home tomorrow.

Thanks for your continued prayers!!!!

CJ, Glad they arrived safe, sorry your sister got car sick - that is no fun at all. Will be praying for safe return tomorrow. Do they have any answers yet from her follow-up visit?
Are you getting some good rest sweet sister?

Well, they are home safe and sound. Dr. appts. went well and the infectious disease specialist changed her LONG TERM antibiotic therapy to a different one (has been on one for an entire year).

These follow-ups were for things that can be treated and healed.
As far as her brain injury?? No changes, no real break throughs.

Reality is very REAL!!! Hope remains but it gets harder and harder to hang on to. But, I serve the GOD OF MIRACLES!!!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED PRAYERS AND ENCOURAGEMENTS!

Oh CJ, I know that scripture says that He does not give us more that we can bear. It sounds as though you continue to carry alot. God must look down on you in wonder each day. I too as Kristy says, pray for miracles in your life and many rich blessings.

CJ-
Saying a prayer for strength for you every time I tie my apron strings! :)
My mother cared for my father for many years until he had to go to assisted living.
She was EXHAUSTED, and it started to affect her outlook and her health, too.
So take care of YOU! Stay strong, blessings to you!

And again, I HUMBLY thank you for your prayers, support and encouragement.

I've cut back my hours (I'm a "senior citizen" now, ya' know. . :) For now it's 10 hour shifts on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was 12 hour shifts on Mon/Tues/Friday.
We'll see.

Elizabeth . . I know EXACTLY what you mean about that changing the "outlook and health" for your mom. I am coming more and more to the realization of that. I NEVER had back issues until I'd been caring for her for a while. I'm hoping that reduced hours help with that. The "outlook" issue?? That is of concern for me as well . . I just ask the Lord DAILY to help me with that. I ask Him to work in the hearts of our siblings . . they need to get a grip on reality . . and in my sis's hubby. He REALLY needs to get a grip on reality.

Anyway, thanks so much!!!!! I'm off until Monday . . trying to get my house cleaned and some reorganizing/sorting done that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overdue it's not funny!!!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

It's been good for me to be working less hours and I hope that all the pieces of this puzzle will fall into place so I can continue to have less hours. This has been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WEARYING!!!!

Hope is harder and harder to hang on to because we don't see any change. I'm trying to find the proper place for KNOWING that God understands and HE KNOWS; where I can rest in the KNOWING even though I don't understand this situation.

My sis still engages is very repetitious and annoying and exhausting behavior, still has very little willingness to help herself (I do believe she has some level of comprehension of how do do this). Helping her is SUCH a physical challenge and everything she does is so very unfocused and unsafe. It's scary! It's very demanding on my physical well-being.

I've journaled memories of her as the person she USED to be in my attempt to help me keep from losing those "pictures" and memories in my memory. Even with journaling that is getting harder and harder to do . . . the CURRENT pictures and state of who is she now is so very vivid and prevalent.

I continue to work as a caregiver but less hours . . . and I continue to hold onto hope!!

THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS and ENCOURAGEMENTS!!!! CJ
