Hi all! Does anyone out there have any suggestions for getting whites back to their white selves? My husband must wear a white undershirt as part of his uniform everyday and they have gotten really dingey (I don't know how to spell that). I don't want to have to buy new shirts for him, but they are starting to look pretty bad. They just seem to come out a little duller everytime I wash them. What can I do?

What I did last time was add that OXI stuff to my whites. It helped clean my collars better then I thought :)

OxyClean, definitely. Try putting in a load with 1/4 cup of borax and 1/2 cup of baking soda and a scoop of oxyclean. Running it through the regular wash cycle with that. I do all my wash in that and it keeps the whites white. I don't get graying or yellowing with that combination.

Oxyclean helps a lot. The other thing you can do is put some lemon juice in the rinse water and either lay them out in the sun to dry or line dry them if you have a line. Also consider using Bluing. But the lemon juice and Bluing only help if there isn't any residue on your clothes, so I suggest first putting some vinegar in your rinse cycle too.

Thanks girls! I'll try the oxyclean first - and some vinegar in the rinse cycle, and see if that helps. I need to get some borax too! I've been meaning to and always seem to forget to check at the store. Thanks for the tips! Also, against our HOA rules to use a clothes line, so no outside drying for me, but I've heard from quite a few people that that will do the trick. I lay smelly kitchen towels outside and the sun does wonders to kill the smell and keep those things white.

I too have some DINGY whites - and what I have found is that I fill the laundry sink with hot water and dump about 4 scoops of oxiclean stuff in there and dissolve it, then put clothese in. Then I leave soaking for about 4-6 hours and come back every so often and stir it up.
This takes dingy yellowed whites to bright white like new! I then usually run these through a quick rinse cycle in the washer, then wash like normal. I also put a LOT more vinegar in the true wash cycle as that oxiclean tends to not make them as soft after the first wash.

| Have you ever tried peroxide?It's not toxic like oxy clean and it works really well.You can also dissinfect your bathroom or anything else you need to. |
