I have taken a spinning class and am hooked! Now the process of looking for my own spinning wheel. My question is when I am looking at the "color choices" in ads there is an "unfinished" option. Why would a person want no finish on their wheel? Please explain.
I am signed up for another spinning class at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival in September, I can't wait!!!!!!
Thanks for your help.

My friend, Teri Hollingsworth, has designed and sells spinning tools. You may want to check out her blog: http://spinnitt.blogspot.com/ I have to admit that I know nothing about the subject, but Teri is getting rave reviews for her designs.

I got mine unfinished and picked my own stain color and did it myself. It is a maple color now (I have had it about 20 years or so) It is an Ashford traditional. My sis in law has one that just has a clear coat..and is a light color wood..it looks more contemporary than my taste..but not all of us like the same thing I guess. I guess the unfinished is just so that you can pick your own.

I have a spinning wheel from heavenlyhandspinning.com and I love it. I was not in a position to buy an expensive wheel, but it was shearing time for my son's alpacas so I needed one. I LOVE it. And very reasonable. Depends on your position I guess but I wouldn't trade mine for the world...even my spinning teacher said it was a cute little wheel with good thought put into the design:)

Hi Lillian
The ladies are right it is so you can customize your wheel. I have tons of friends who have really done a wonderful job - some have wood burned designs into it, other's have stained their, and some have painted. Just like the thousands of differnt spinners, we all are creative creatures and one size fits all just does not work for us...
Good luck on picking a wheel - I have many and they all speak to me when I sit to spin.

Thank you girls! Now I can continue my quest, until I get stopped with another question.
