I am a soon to be mother due in about 2 months...and I have been having a difficult time finding a car seat that isn't flame retardent and a bit more eco friendly. Does anyone have any resources or idea...please send them my way.

Why would you want one that isn't flame retardent, as far as I know they have to be by law.

Congratulations! I understand not wanting the chemicals associated with flame retardency, but I think Teresa's right, and they have to be in order to be sold in the U.S.

There are some more eco conscious options, but I guess you'd have to see what is involved in their manufacturing to weigh the costs.

hmmmm... the reason I don't want a flame retardent is because I am environmentally ill so I avoid chemicals at all costs...I guess I will have to figure out what the best option is.

I would assume that only the fabric covering is what might bother you, so have someone take it apart and make a pattern and sew a new one, by the way congrads also, and good luck

You might want to check out this site- it lists which ones are high concern for chemicals and which ones are safer:

After your post, I did a little searching and found that there are some eco friendly crafters that make car seat covers, so your child won't have to come in direct contact with the flame retardant fabric. Now, ask me where I found that link yesterday...sorry. I think I searched under "non-toxic flame retardent car seats" and it came up randomly...
