Curious how many of you ladies home school. DH and I are strongly considering it for our boys and would appreciate anyone’s thoughts on the matter. |

My parents did for my sister, brother, and I. I planning on homeschooling my children when they are old enough. I still have a couple of years though. That's plenty of time to gather up the books and such I want to use :D hugs

Jessie, we home schooled for 15 years. Graduated the two oldest (girls) one went on to Ohio State ,which took her only 3 years , then Clarion in Pa for her masters, which took 11 months. She is a librarian now and was completely finished at age 22. The middle went to culinary school (pastry) after working for two years but hated been "locked up" in the kitchen and all that went on there so with our blessing withdrew. She is doing great working full time. Our youngest (son) went till 8th grade and we moved and enrolled him in a small town school, he is also doing great. Long story / one moral / if you are going to school at home be strong /school well and have a blast with your children. Tammyb #541 |

We are officially "cyberschoolers" but essentially homeschoolers. My kids are enrolled with K12 http://www.k12.com via the Colorado Virtual Academy. It is wonderful! Would be happy to answer any questions if you'd like to email me!

I homeschooled my three girls, the youngest to graduate in a couple weeks. We loved! My oldest got her AA in Child Education, got married and had a baby, My middle girl always wanted to be a Beautician, and has been for the past 4 years, my youngest will start school in the fall to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. Homeschooling gives so much more freedom, no unused time as in the public school and you can zero in on what each child needs. I too would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have.
For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today. St. Augustine

We've been homeschooling for 2 years now. We live in a very small town with a school for K-6, one FT teacher and 2 assistants. The last year my DD went to public school there were I think 14 kids, and 4 families decided to pull out and homeschool. 2 of the families are doing virtual academy and 2 are doing their own schooling. The kids all seem to be doing much better. The one thing to make sure your kids do is: have plenty of interaction with other kids on a regular basis. This helps them to develop their social skills too. We have 4-H, pathfinders, and regular church where DD interacts with other kids. She is definitely more mature then the kids that go to public school and learning a lot more life skills as well as the 3 R's so to say. I wish I had done this sooner as DD began 5th grade at home. I'm all for homeschooling and think it's the best way to teach children.
I hope everyone that can tries it. Cindy

I have homeschooled since my son was in second grade. He will be a junior in high school next year. I tried the private school thing for six months, I taught there, and realized it was truely a mistake for us. Every child learns differently, undersanding my sons learning style, it was a waste of time and money. Besides, being homeschooled he has traveled across the country learning geography, learned to fly an airplane, learned weapon safety, learned how to completely rebuild a house (elecrtical, plumbing, drywall even reroofing a home) before the age of 15, all from his mother! There have been countless other lessons, but the most important part of being homeschooled is that you truely get to know your kid. I love being around him. He is very respectful, helpful, and many other qualities...he wants to be an er physcian. I know he wouldn't be the person he is today if he wasn't homeschooled. I truely wish you luck. If you have any questions about homeschooling and want a farmgirl's support email me. (Did I mention I am a single mom, my husband died a few weeks after my son was born, if I can do it any one can!) |

I've homeschooled off and on with my two kids. They're in a small private school right now, where I also teach part time. Our small town doesn't have a lot of homeschoolers, and the high cost of living makes it hard for one parent to just stay home to homeschool. We tried K12 and really liked it, and we may try it again in the future, we take it a year at a time. Homeschooling is probably my favorite thing if we have the social stimulation we all need to keep from going crazy.

Tammy, My husband, Jessie's dad is from the Clarion, PA area. I just thought that was neat that you mentioned it. His family is still there.

Hi, I was homeschooled a good portion of my life! I think it was great and am considering it for my own kids as well. :)

Chelsea,
I homeschoold my last two , who are now grown. I would do it again in a second. It's true that you really get to know each other when you spend your days together. They learn so much more about real life struggles, and successes when they are a part of it. |

I homeschool my two boys ages 10 and 6 and wouldn't have it any other way. I am very fortunate to have one neighbor who homeschooled her 3 girls and her youngest just graduated from college (all 3 went and graduated with no problems) and one neighbor who homeschooled her daughter who is in college and her son who will be 18 in December. Lots of support. It isn't nearly as hard as it seems, especially after the first couple of years.
I had to talk dh into it, but now he wouldn't have it any other way either.
All the best whatever your decision, Tanna |

Hi, We've been a home school family for just over 10 years. We have 5 kids ages 15-8(tomorrow). It is a challenge but I wouldn't have it any other way. I actually have two teens who speak to me and enjoy my company! I believe the time that has been invested in them is worth every minute. My suggestion to you is to remember: Home schooling is not public school at home. Follow your kids passions and things that interest you. It is amazing everything I have learned!! I am a product of the public school system K-college and I couldn't be happier with our home school decision. I approach each new year with prayer to try to make the best choices for the kids. Take Care. |

We homeschool our daughter. It's amazing what Mae has learned so far. She loves it. We love it. And the fact that we can both teach her is great. I mean who better to teach your children than you. We love the flexiblity that comes with homeschooling. Good luck to all who homeschool and God bless. Jessie |
