I heard two of my favorite sounds today. These are really special because one I very seldom ever hear and the other well today was my first time to ever hear it for real.

Complete and total quiet. It has been so long.

And the one that really took the cake-- a group of horses running together. What an amazing sound!

I love the sounds a mother animal (goats sheep and cows all do it) make to their baby...little grumbly noises that the baby understands. Nothing like it.
Quiet is a great one too.

Since I found a stray kitten, I've been hearing the sound of purring. Like a little motor that never stops running.

The ping of canning jars, just out of the canner. The flapping of the flag on top the flag pole, the ripple of the waterfall in the water garden. The cackle of a hen just off the nest. All this with a background of silence.

Right this minute it's the sound of rain drops hitting the very thirsty ground and on the roof!!!

And the clucking sound a momma hen makes to her babies and they all come running back to her.

Deborah, I'm glad you got rain, too. And that is cute what your GD calls you. When my 1st GD was starting to talk we tried to get her to say Pappy for her great Gpa but she only said happy. So he's Happy now to all of them but really, he's anything but happy most of the time. Oh well.

The sound of rain on a tin roof, the gentle low of a cow calling her calf, my grandsons running up to me and saying look grandma, "big bug", LOL the sound of the breezes blowing thru the leaves on the trees.

Good question, and I agree the best sound is that of quiet, the kind you only have when there is a lot of open space around you and no one nearby.

I have been hearing a Mississippi Kite calling the last few days. That is a beautiful sound.

The sound of a purring cat just makes me smile and happy!
I absolutely love the sound of a piano. And- a cello makes me glow. Sounds are beautiful.

cows mooing waayy out in pasture
my son's belly laugh
my husband's boot steps with spurs (I can tell it's him by his jingle!)
I heard the wind come up the creek once before I felt it, that was pretty cool

Hmmm... so many good replies. It's really hard to narrow it down.

Yesterday, before it got dark, my husband and I, and our three teenage sons walked through the pasture to pick blackberries. The sounds were just amazing. I heard the crickets chirping, the flies buzzing, the lambs calling to their mama's and the mama's calling back. We had a ewe in labor (that we had to help give birth to twins when we got back!), and I could hear her calling to the babies not yet born. I also heard the cows and the goats putting THEIR two cents in... Honestly, I don't LIKE silence. I like SOUND! In fact, I LOVE sound! Especially the sounds of nature..... sigh.....

I love the quiet- and the herds of horses, and I am blessed to get both of those daily...but I also love the sound of the birds in the morning and the bullfrogs and crickets in the evening.

Because I am a new mother, the sounds that I find most amazing right now come from Violet...she has this beautiful little sigh that she makes after a sneeze...and her belly laugh? Nothing can make my day better.

I also love to hear my dogs sleeping, softly snoring on the floor after a long walk in the woods.

The birds in the morning. Rain on our metal awnings. The stream, raging behind our house after a rainstorm. Train whistles.

It's kind of sad to hear, but the sound an antelope makes when it's separated from the herd and is calling to them is really neet-o

Some make clicking sound so soft you can miss it , others make an abreviated call similar to what a baby goat sounds like. Not quite a moo, not quite a baa

Cat purrs

And content elephant purrs that are so bizarre I can't even explain

I just love these ansers. Some of the things you all have mentioned I probably wouldn't have thought of before. Isn't it funny how we can sometimes take things for granted.

I heard some somewhat surprising noises last night around my house. Kinda surprising cause we live in town. Maybe they have always been here and I just never really paid attention before.
Crickets chirping- shouldn't be surprised because my youngest catches them all the time. She caught 11 of them last summer and kept them in her bug cage for a few nights in the house until her older sister and brother either convinced or threatened her into getting rid of them. Guess they didn't much like sleeping with chirping crickets. LOL
And a bullfrog. This one just really has me puzzled. But he was a really nice addition to the crickets.

Some of my other favorites:
My Hallie's laugh- it's super contagious
The strum of a guitar
Max the bunny doing his lil bunny growl at Ruby
Soft breeze through the trees

I love the sound of my 2yo GS laughing when I go to put him down and I hold him close to me and tell him he's stuck, then I bounce trying to get him off and he just laughs and laughs. He does the same thing when my finger gets stuck in his arm pit. He's so much fun.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

A Missippii Kite is a bird the size of a large hawk, and it has a quite impressive wing span. It makes a sound I cannot describe....almost like a sailor whistling at a pretty girl. But a lovely sound. They nest high in tall pines.

Oh,my gosh - what a great thing to think about! I love what everyone listed, dittos! I love the sound of running hooves and rain on my roof too; and birds and crickets in the evening also. But the other night, I happened to be in the woods, and heard a great horned owl...... It hardly made a noise as it flew, but then it hooted.....................wow.

My favorite sound is that very first cry of a newborn. I am expecting my 4rth and I think every single day about that sound. I trained to be a midwife and believe me....it NEVER gets old to hear that little cry!
I also love the sound of the creek that flows around our part of the farm.

The sound of a train at night. I have always thought it a bit romantic. Now, in my new home, I am lucky to hear it a few times a day.

Crickets at twilight always make me smile.

Aretha Franklin, (at 14) singing "Precious Lord", never fails to give me goosebumps.
