I saw a promotion for a future application "beta version" of software - If I understand the concept, they are planning to give the consumer more information when grocery shopping - letting them download information to cell phone or other wireless mobile device (Mp3 player? iPaq? Blackberry?) about the product's origin...
In other words, if you shop at Wal-Mart (or CostCo, or Target, or other big-box store) instead of the farmer's market, you can still find out who the farmer is that grew the crop, and what their growing practices are...
I am wondering if this is crazy or not. My husband gets very impatient with me when I go shopping just because I want to use my coupons, and look at the label to see if it contains high-fructose corn syrup-- I can't imagine his reaction if I had to compare the supply chain information on two competing brands of potatoes before making a purchase decision....
Would you use this technology if it were available and didn't cost you extra cell phone charges?
