Hi,
I have black astroloups ( I probably didn't spell that right) anyway, one of them and I don't know which one keeps laying eggs that have ripples in them. Are they ok eggs? What would do this? Any information is greatly appreciated... Bev

Hi Beverley! I read somewhere that there is nothing wrong with "rippled eggs", it is just a wierdness in the shell. If, however it is constant it could possibly be an infection in the oviducts. I had a chicken that would lay rippled eggs as well.They were just as delicious as the rest...it makes for a more interesting egg hunt every morning though!lol

| We have had hens that layed rippled eggs too. I never gave a thought that there might be something wrong with the egg. We just eat them along with the rest. If I were to guess, I'd think there might be a defischency (I know that isn't spelled right) in the hen's diet. On the other hand, all the hens are eating the same feed. OK, I don't know. |

theres no problem whatsoever with rippled eggs, just the hardening process as it goes thru the lines. All is good in eggland...

Nope....they are all good. I rememeber one time being in a grocery store and hearing a gal tell her friend that the way to see if eggs were fresh (at the grocery store...ha!) was the ones that had little bumps on them were fresher!! I didn't say a word since the gal obviously considered herself an authority...but had to giggle.

Jenny, that is just too funny, what most people don't know is that the average grocery store egg is upwards of a year old, icky, icky , icky!!!
As far as rippled egg shells, a hen that lays those, will always lay those, and according to my studies many moons ago in animal husbandry, its a deformaty of the ovaduct, which is where the eggs form, and it will never hurt anything, and the eggs taste the same as any other.

| We have eaten many strange looking eggs. If your chicken is young and just beginning to lay , the eggs can be strange shaped. I have had some hens that have thin shelled eggs no matter what I do. We've had rippled eggs occasionally too. We just them all. I love having chickens. I started out with them in town years ago and everyone thought I was nuts. |

We get an occasional rippled egg too. Taste just fine. We've gotten so spoiled with TRULY fresh eggs! They make for a beautiful lemon-merengue pie!

To me the shell seems thicker than the other ones. it just looks funny to me .. The hen laid eggs last year and this is her second season. I think some of her eggs were rippled last year too. Or maybe she was the one that did not lay eggs cause out of 4 hens we were only getting 3 a day. so she must have been the one that was not laying. so it is her first season then.

A little funny from my 6 year old grandson the other day, he had his first sleep over at a school friends, and when he got home, he said he could'nt eat there any more, When we asked why, he said they eat fake food, we said "FAKE FOOD", he said the mom got eggs from a foam box, and the milk was out of a plastic jug, and it really tasted funny, so it had to be fake.
