Hi Jonni and I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Stooka. I have 3 cats and I love every one of them to pieces. My little deaf kitty Crier is laying across my right wrist as I type this. Our pets are so precious to us and bring us joy and unconditional love. It's heartbreaking to lose your special friend. Whatever was wrong at least she did not suffer long for which you can take comfort. A memory garden for her would be wonderful and you will never lose the sweet memories you have. I have a site where you can have your beloved angel kitty's name added to a roster. I believe it is free and a way to pay tribute to your sweet Stooka. Here is the address if you are interested. http://www.sniksnak.com/angelkitties/

Thank you again, girls. The week has been trying, but this is a new day and I know Stooka is whole again.

Thanks so much Marly for sharing your adorable story about Henry Dragon (what a wonderful name, by the way!). I laughed out loud and it was very needed. I woke up this morning feeling a little clearer, and time does march on, doesn't it? There are 6 other furry friends who need me here at our little cottage, not to mention my little girl and my husband. I spent some time last night cleaning up and playing with the remaining two boys, Jack Sprat and Professor Pumpkin and snuggled with them a while...they miss her, though they did not always see eye to eye :)

Cheryl, thank you for that link. I am going to put her name there, and am charting my memory garden as we speak. Saturday looks like a good day for planting, and I have so many flowers to put by for her. I'd love to see a picture of your kitty, Crier...is he/she white? Our Barney, when I was little was all white and deaf, and probably the best childhood pet anyone could have.

Dear Jonni,
I am so sorry for your loss. My animals are as much a part of my family as my daughters are. It hurts so much to lose one. Please know I am keeping you in my prayers.

Jonni:
Happy to hear that you are a little clearer this morning. You see my boy, Henry Dragon, even comforted you! He lives on and on and on.
Jack Sprat and Professor Pumpkin will love your snuggles. Don't forget they are grieving also. When Henry Dragon passed away, my other inside cat Zoe grived so much. About a week later, I was in bed one night reading. All of a sudden I heard his loud catawauling, it sounded just exactly like Henry Dragon. Even my husband looked at me and said, "That sounded just like Henry Dragon". After I heard it the second time, I jumped out of bed running toward the sound. It was Zoe, sitting in the kitchen next to one of Henry Dragons toys. She had her own meow, never sounding bolding like Henry Dragon. She was calling him in his voice! At that point in time, I knew animals grieve just like we do. So cuddle those two boys and let them know that things will soon be better. Take care.

Hi again Jonni and you're most welcome for the link. My Crier is black with just a couple spots of white on her.

First picture is Isis and Crier. Isis was a rescue who only weighed 5.6# when we adopted her and her hair was falling out. She was skin and bones. She is now a very healthy and much bigger kitty. She is my special friend and loves to snuggle and touch my face with her paws. Crier we brought home from my parents house last summer as my Dad just loved her and was afraid a coyote would get her or she'd get run over by a car she didn't hear. She has adjusted to being a house kitty very well and loves Isis very much. The 2nd picture is my DH Dennis with his kitty Missy who loves him to death. When he goes outside she sits and cries by the door till he comes back inside and she loves to sleep on his shoes at night. She is a tortie with an attitude who is very smart but very much her own boss. She definitely owns the joint and just lets the rest of us live here...LOL

Beautiful cats, Cheryl!!!

I am adjusting, but it has been a very difficult week--it sure is much quieter without Stooka around. As I mentioned before, she was quite the air-raid siren, and kept it going ALLLL day and night. Miss that for sure! The day after Stooka passed, we had $1700 worth of plumbing done, only to come home after a torrential storm and find 6 inches of water in the basement, along with some of our possessions ruined. That same night, my oldest kitty, Prof. Pumpking (who I thought was passing some weeks back) was trapped down in the basement with the rising water, and was short of breath and dehydrated, so off to the emergency vet we went at midnight. Needless to say, I took the baby and stayed with my mother that night...our house is NOT my friend right now...

Oh no! I was wondering over the weekend if your other pets were all ok...I guess none of them got into the poisoned mouse, so that's a good thing. But I'm sorry to hear about the basement and the emergency vet trip. Not a fun weekend at all. I hope things calm down this week and Professor P. is none the worse for being trapped in the flood.

Jonni,
I'm so sorry for your loss of Stooka. But like the others have said, don't be too hard on yourself. Even if you had had the Karo syrup on hand, you probably wouldn't have done anything different because like you said, it's hot and the critters slow down a little....cats can go from healthy to not soooo fast! I lost a kitty from a kidney infection. She was fine one night and the next she wasn't. By the time she started showing symptoms of not feeling well, it was too late. Big hugs to you and your family...furry family members ARE important!
