So, what is your favorite type of fabric? I have to say that while silks, satins & velvets are sooo wonderful to touch and organic cotton is so "Green", my all time favorite,,,& those of you who grew up in the 60's can attest to this....Seesucker! Yep, good old fashion cotton Seersucker... I love the way it puckers, and gets softer with washings. I love both the solids as well as plaids...I have 2 seesucker blouces in my closet, but they are hard to come by. So for now I just continue to wash, wear & enjoy mine. Oh and another thing I LOVE about seesucker,,,No Ironing! lol! Have a Great Day.

itd have to be 100% cotton, with cotton eyelet running a close second. It is so easy to work with and nothing beats being able to throw it in the wash..:D hugs

I adore cotton flannel. Not the acrylic clingy icky stuff...the thick yummy cotton flannel. And I do love unbleached muslin too..so so so useful.

I can't believe it! As soon as I saw the topic my first thought was seersucker! Great minds think alike.:) Memories, I guess.

Cotton, especially when it has that nice smooth hand to it, I bought a bolt of black Kona cvotton a few years ago and I'm almost ready for more. The Kona cottons are really luscious. Of course I love seersucker too, and it does get better and better as it gets washed. I also love linen, such lovely texture.
When I was pregnant with my son, I hemmed black and blue checked flannel blankets for him. We still have them, they are the nice thick flannel. I love silk, but have only used small bits in crazy quilting...

I saw seersucker in the store for the first time in a long time on Saturday. Hubby took me to Fabric Depot in Portland - it's supposed to be the biggest fabric store in the nation. They didn't have two of the things I was looking for though - chenille and camoflauge fleece. I wanted some white cotton eyelet - they had a nice selection, but it was too spendy for my purse - $16.99 a yard.

Oh My - I can never pick a fav - I must admit I love them all!! I have some incredible eyelet that must be about 30 years old - I keep telling myself that a nightgown and matching robe is in it's future. I have some great Seersucker that I purchased when a store went out of business and that must be going on twenty years now - I made two dresses when I worked in a law firm and now I am not sure what to make with the rest. I must admit I am a fabric stasher along with my beads, buttons, and then their is my fiber business. I keep thinking of selling some of the fabric. I have rooms full - maybe this would be a great time to do that???

I just love seersucker, and 100% cotton along with eyelet. I remember making peddlepushers from seersucker and a summer dress out of seersucker no ironing needed. Laurie

It's funny how the majority of us "farm gals" love clean cotton be it seersucker(my all time fav) eyelet, flannel....etc...Synthetics just can't compete! I have been toying with buying some Organic Cotton fabric(at Joanns Fabric) to use for making pillowcases. Wish they had fun designs. But for now all I can find is plain/solids....I guess I could machine embroider some cute designs on the fabric.... Hey Sheri, thanx for the tip on Fabric.com for plaid seesucker. Now to head over there...lol!

Oh Karen, thanks for giving me a great place to get into trouble with - I had made a promise not to purchase new fabric until I found new homes from some of my hundreds of yards of fabric that already live with me. Darn it - I knew I should not have clicked on that link....

I love 1930s reproduction cottons. They were originally made to be a bright spot in the Great Depression and I think they still brighten things up today. I make my fabric into quilts and then I can look at them every day.

joyce, what a great way to make quilts....I love the reproductions of vintage designed fabrics. I love cotton feed sacks too...but some of the repros are so good that I don't know if I could tell the difference 'tween the vintage and the modern versions.
Grace G., don't ya love being a 'fabricaholic'? I dooooo!

Since I'm a certified fabric junkie I must like all of it. :)
But I'll have to say for modern fabrics I love the hand of a Linen/Rayon blend, Linen/tencel blend or just plain ole Linen...the more you wash it, the softer it becomes...and the wrinkles are the character of it..so after the initial ironing..let those creases begin! And then of course, high quality cotton!
For my vintage fabrics I'll have to say pillow ticking, barkcloth and feedsacks are among my favorites.

Gee...I didn't mean to make it sound like all my reproduction fabric was made into quilts. Far from it! I have a huge stash of cottons.
Just looking at them makes me happy. After all, I do need to keep the closets warm!
In the winter, I decorate in a warmer theme, Thimbleberries and similar fabrics. In the summer, pastels from my 1930's quilts and other vintage looking fabrics.
It's so nice to "meet" kindred spirits, Joyce |

Stephanie, I have a stash of vintage Bark cloth....& love it....wish I could buy more but the price tags are getting hefty!
Joyce, "Quilters keep us in stitches" ... lol! wish I knew who origionated that verse.
Oh & yes, I am wearing a seersucker blouse today... happy happy!
I just bought (off Amazon.com) a book about vintage fabrics from the late 1800's to 1960. I can hardly wait for it to arrive. I had been borrowing our local quilt clubs version to do some research. >^..^<
