I think I will embroider some towels. But what are the best ones to buy? Some of the girls have said the flour sack towels are to big and to thin. Is that right? So what is a good one?

I shouldn't comment because I have never done it but I was looking at Colonial Patterns and they had some new striped ones that were REALLY cute but not sure what the material was but they advertised them as good for embroidering on. The stripes were just on one part of the towel.

Hi Nancy Jo,
I have used to big flower sack towels. They are super absorbent and I love using them, but they are wicked hard to embroider on unless you get the iron on/pin on stabilizer to work with. I use the kind that you pin on and then it just rinses away with cold water.I don't embroider on those too often.

The ones from Colonial Patterns are really nice. My Mom got a few of those and shared. They are really absorbent too and though they are a little stretchy when you embroider on them, everything still turns out very nicely.

I prefer the 100% cotton towels. They are stronger and can stand alone in the embroidery hoops. They have a tendency to hold up super well and I am not afraid to soak them or use them heavy duty. (I only use the ones Ive embroidered for heavy duty..it seems a shame for someone else to embroider them and then use them....LOL)

Mostly, it is your preference in what you like. Some girls love the flour sack, some like the softer cotton, and some like the stiff stuff. :)

Hope you find what you are looking for!
hugs

If you can find the fabric for birdseye diapers it makes great towels and can be embroidered on. I bought a couple of yards at JoAnn's; I had to ask a salesperson where it was (hidden back on a bottom shelf).

I just recently used the striped ones from Colonial and love them to work with. I loved they way they turned out so much so I have not used them but the towels are much sturdier than the thin flimsy ones. These are cotton also. I will use them again.
