I did nothing last night, and it was everything I thought it could be!

I got home from work, took off my shoes and socks, and went out on our porch. I sat down in my rocker, put my feet up, and just sat. Didn't read. Didn't darn socks. Didn't play the autoharp. Just sat.

Then my husband called. I talked to him on the phone for about 20 minutes, and I sat some more.

After a while, I decided it was suppertime. I ate cold, leftover scones. I ate them on the porch from my hands - didn't even bother with a plate. I let the dog take care of the crumbs.

And I just sat.

I took the dog out in the backyard and while he did what he needed to do, I sat.

Then I went back inside, put on my nightgown, and went to bed.

IT WAS THE BEST DAY I'VE HAD IN YEARS!

That is awesome, Jessie! Sometimes I think we need that mental quiet that you can get from just sitting an being in the moment! *hugs* Glad you got to unwind after a week filled with Bridezillas!

I'm glad to know that you did that--everyone should do that. I wish I could. I feel lazy and defensive if I don't do at least one thing. That's MY hangup :)

Trust me...you did yourself and the world a favor and I REALLY wish more people would do that! I went to my craft group last night and they tend to be "women who over-extend themselves" and I had to listen to it ALL night...I left early....I couldn't take it anymore. Some people are so self-sacrificing and it's like it's a sign of a good Christian woman...well, let me tell you....they could have spared me last night! LOL! I don't think they realize how they resent it and then take it out on innocent by-standers! LOL! If I said black they said white....I think I like the porch sitting and keeping to myself....the world can be a bit "cranky" at times! Good for you Jessie!!!! If we don't take care of ourselves we are probably making others miserable without even realizing it. So, if we really want to be kind and loving to others then we need to start with ourselves. AWOMEN! AMEN! You go girlfriend!

Fantastic! Good for you!!!

I need that as well. Maybe this Sunday. I use to do that on Sunday's after church...nothing. I think you have inspired me to do that again. Thanks.

Why is it that we feel that we have to be doing something all the time. That we can't just sit and do nothing. I say "Way to go Jessie"!!!! I think we should do that more often.

It's hard, to do nothing...............
And definitely good.
I try to be a minimalist, but it's hard.

Wow. That sounds like you had the best time ever. I do have a fear I guess, that I should be always doing something. But when I go visit this little 91 year old lady and I sit for so long, I almost fall asleep. I cannot keep my eyes open.

But that did remind me of Mother's day a few years back. I did just what you did ALL day! By myself! It was the best mother's day I ever had. In fact, it was probably THE best day I've had. I sat outside under a shade tree and did not a thing. All day. It was great. Everyone should do that at least once a year. Great way to spend a day.

I hope you have many more lovely evenings like that, Jessie. You deserve it.

I have done that myself, and it is very satisfying to just sit and soak up your surroundings. The trick for me is to stop and be still when I'm feeling good, because usually if I manage to feel go I try really hard to get things done....

Doing nothing is the best thing to 'do' at times. We need to decompress from everyday stresses. Now that the weather here is getting beautiful, I have my little garden set up, my chairs set outside....and after work, I'll just sit. My home is facing the woods and I'll watch the birds come and go from my neighbor's birdhouse. I hear the songbirds and watch rabbits 'veg' out in the grass, I've even seen a duck couple waddle along. It's so peaceful....a real 'ahhhhh' feeling. I hope you're feeling better, Jessie. Good for you!

Good for yoou Jessie, and after the week you've had at work you deserved it.
My dad use to have a little sign that said," Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sit" Didn't get it when I was little
