Yep, there is a big family get-together this Sunday to celebrate a birthday, Memorial Day and to do something else that escapes me at the moment. I don't even care enuf to find out what it is.
I'm dreading it big-time. Hubs dippy sister is going to be there and she's still mad at hubs for we-don't-know-what-reason but it's been good enough to keep her away from us. Can't be better than that! But she's coming with her snotty kids and a couple of grandkids.
There there is the usual assortment of brats and snippy people who don't like each other but, hey, we're all family so we must get together!!
Why don't people get together with people you actually LIKE instead of people who just happen to have the same DNA that you don't like??
Fortunately, I've got it figgered out...read on...now that I have my horse at home, we can't go over the mountain the night before to spend the nite with them. We have to wait till Sunday morn to go cuz I have to feed my horse. Also, we are leaving my baby-cakes Mini-Doxies at home so they can't stay by themselves for 24 hours...right?? THEN, I still have to go back to my old house and pick up my flowers and a few garden items that I had to leave due to no space left in the pickup for our move over here... So that will kill another 2 hours or so once we get there. Also, there is a friend I need to see about a horse too...think I can draw that out for an hour or so.
I will have to actually go to the d*mn party but I figger I can cut down my time there if I play my cards right.
Now that we live on the other side of the mountain, I can almost totally avoid them but every once in a while, something sooooo special comes up that even I can't figger a way to evade so I consider this a penance of sorts.
Yeah...family party...

I'm right there with you Winona! I've got a husband's family like that and I'm dreading the Memorial Day weekend. I just thought it through, and not one day out of the three will I get to relax at home or do something fun with my husband. :(

Hey Winona,
I FEEL your pain! It's not that bad at hubby's parent's place as everyome gets along, but converstaions are so pathetically borning, no one has much speaking/socializing skills, and I can't STAND any of the redneck kids and their ignorant parents.
Hubby's siblings are so lazy. Thank goodenss he got the working hard gene, isn't lazy, and has held down a steady paying job with the state for 15 years!
My saving grace will be having to work all day. Dinner will be served at 6, I get home around 4:30 and must take care of the dog and the chickens first.
It could be way worse I know. I feel grateful they would even hold dinner for us in the first place.
Kind of sad when hubby even likes my parents way more though when it comes to doing things socially. 'Course, they are world travelers and are super involved in their commumity and church. Not bad for a couple of old farts. So where are they?? In Noris, Tenn. on the lake with a bunch of their friends.
If there are any farmgirls near there, you'll know it's my folks, cause dad always brings fireworks to shoot over the lake. (Not the cheap little stuff either)!
So we'll each suck it up and also thank goodness most of us have to work tomorrow and can't linger very long. |

Welp, I made it thru the party in pretty good shape.
A lot of stuff was going on, quite a bit had nothing to do with me as I stayed out of the line of fire, but I noticed some really important things. There is the inner clique that my MIL runs and the female blood relatives stick with her. Then there is the married-into-the-family female relatives that are relagated (sp?) to the outer rings, of which I'm one. So, us outer ring females go together and we had the best time! My nephews wife has had a hard time too and we made a game of it. (We played a cussing game but in low voice but laffed out loud, we were so RUDE) So much fun we had that hubby's sister came over to join us and her presence upset the applecart. She kind of got the hint and left.
Then hubby's sister whined on about how life was treating her badly and I told hubs I don't want to even know. When you treat people badly for years (we haven't spoken in about 5 years after she said hubby needed a better class of girlfriend, that would be me she was speaking of), I think you deserve what happens to you. Don't feel bad for her a bit. She's a snake having learned from my MIL, I'm pretty sure.
So, now that I've laid it on the line with hubby, things went really well. I don't look forward to any more 'parties' but at least I have a defense mechanism.

Our little get otgether went ok too
The one brother and his kids wasn't there.
It helped there was a ton of food!
And my MIL's sister was there w/ her daughter and hubby. The sister and hubby are chatty, so it made for far better conversation.
I played it safe and brought a plate of brownies and stopped at the local frut stand for a quart of fresh strawberries. Both were right on the mark for sure.
But don't you hate it when- even the nice little things you do get critiqued??
