As some of you may know, my little Oliver is visually impaired. After months of waiting, we finally got in to see a specialist. his vision is 20/200. not so great. We are not worried or upset as Oliver is the happiest baby you have ever met!! And not to mention the love of our lives.
I would love to talk to other gals that have been through this.....
thanks:)

I don't have a visually impaired child, but I do have a hearing impaired son (along with other problems) and I can tell you that the best thing we could have done for him was to treat him as though he could accomplish anything, and he has. John is 23 now, graduated from high school at 21, is now working at a job he really likes, and is probably my most independent kid. I don't think he sees the difference between himself and others. He's just a bright, happy young man.
You'll be surprised at how easily things will come to you to help Oliver acheive success and independence. Are there any programs in your area for children with vision impairments? Maybe a parent support group nearby or even online? The Internet has surely opened a whole new world of resources for parents of children with disabilities.
Hopefully someone else here can give you more specific ideas, but you already have the best tool to help him, you're his mom and you love him.

Nope, but my mom had: ME.
I am almost blind with my left eye and need quite a strong glass for my right eye.

I DO have a few "problems" but they are minor ones compared to many others. I have to really turn my head to see things on my left. I see MONO instead of STEREO :) And my eyes are aways itchy, tired and often red, but that is all really. I am SO used to this I don't know any other way so.....
And I bet little Oliver is just as happy as if he was not visually impaired :) He has you both as a mommy and daddy!!

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)
