| Earlier today I was shocked to discover a rash on the back and tummy of my 11 month old. He has been teething... or at least I thought, had a fever two days ago, and one last week. He also has suffered from diarrhea on and off. I attributed all this to his teeth, considering that these symptoms have been the norm each time a new tooth appeared. Just not as severe. He was check by the doc last week... because of the days of diarrhea, and she said he was fine. So now this rash is freaking me out. Any suggestions? I have never had a kid break out on his body like this. |

Maybe fifths. My grandson had that last spring. Maybe look it up on google. I hope he is not too fussy,poor little guy.

| Thanks Tina, but I don't think that is it. He doesn't have the bright red cheeks. Other then the rash he acts perfectly normal, and it does not seem to bother him. Maybe it is just some sort of allergic reaction. |

Chelsea- have you changed anything in your house? Food, laundry detergent, softener? New cleaning chemicals? New lotion or soap?
If you haven't changed anything like that it might not be an allergic reaction.
Could it be a heat rash? Between diaper, heater air, and warm clothes, I know kids have gotten heat rash in the spring time before.
Another thought could be that it is just a virus rash. Nora got a few of those earlier this year. The doctor told me it is just the toxins from the virus leaving the body and to only worry if she was running a high fever while rashy.
I would keep him comfortable with come Aquaphor ointment and cool baths.
I hope your baby starts feeling better!

When my daughters were babies I tried using that white cream stuff that is for diaper rash (can't remember the name) Desitin ointment? It never worked,only caked up and stuck to them in patches and they still had diaper rash. My MIL told me to use Vaseline because thats all she ever used. It worked like a miracle. They never had diaper rash again. Vaseline is all my daughter puts on her baby and no rash, not even a red bottom. Also when their cheeks get red from wind, rub a small amount of Vaseline on them and it will be gone by the next day. I even put a little on before we take her out if it's windy and it prevents her cheeks from getting windburned. Baby's cheeks are so tender that it only take a tiny bit of wind to get chapped. I call Vaseline my miracle ointment.

Just in case any one else reads this for help, start with vasciline in only a small area to make sure the child is not allergic to it. I am severely allergic to vacsiline. I get deathly ill from it (get staph infection, almost killed me once, took over a year to get rid of the infection). My uncle is also allergic to it......he spent a year in the hospital because of the staph he got from it. I know many drs will say you can not get staph from vasciline, but not the drs who treated my uncle and I. It's just how our body reacts to it. In fact it was lack of drs believing me why I had it so bad for a year. They put it on a wound......even though it was clearly put on my wrist band in the hospital and told directly to the dr when he went to put it on me, and he said that you can't be allergic to it, you can't get staph from it! Well...then I spent a year fighting staph......that I about couldn't get rid of....he believes now! (I knew I was allergic before that incident, because my mom used it on me as a baby and the same thing happened......about that same time her brother went into the hospital from the same allergic reaction I had! But, he was there for a year trying to get rid of the staph infection! And almost died).

Glad to hear the rash is gone.
Levi has something similiar to that. He used to get teething rashes all the time but they were generally centralized to his bottom and his face. Not too long ago, he had one that I assumed was teething, but turned out to be a spider bite. I was all over his little self. It didn't itch him or bother him. I looked like a big red sunburn all over.
One day, it just went away. Thankfully!

| My little guys have always gotten a bit of a rash around their mouths when during teething, but never over the tummy and back. I still wonder if he is allergic to something, it was weird. |
