Do any of you have tried and true recipes you can whip off with no recipe card? It's always good, but you never do it the same way twice.

I have 3: .For potluck, I usually fall back on a taco pie variation. It's hard to mess up refried beans. Then there's my Tex-Mex. It's a bit more labor intensive with mulitple layers and steps, but always good so I'm told. And then the anti-cancer soup. It's cooked whole veggies that all get pureed. I think the secret to it is the roasted garlic bulbs and leeks.

I have several. One is goulosh. Then Sloppy Joes, Veggie soup, chili. I am sure there is more. I love trying new recipes, some of them become favorites. But the best stuff is plain veggies or meat, sauteed, or grilled, EVOO S & P.

Tell me more about the anti-cancer soup. Sounds interesting.

I have a few, but the ones that are actually written down, I still have to check the recipie card, I'm afraid I'll forget! Like hubby's grandma's chocolate cake, I could write it out, right now, but would still go get the card after I said it all. I have another cake like that, but I remember it now, because I have just made 4 of them in the past 2 days.. gearing up for branding.. And most times I use the cook book as more of a reference, I'll still add my own stuff ;)

The anti cancer soup is so good you don't need potatoes or pasta. Just a good birdseedy hunk of atrisian bread.

The amounts listed here make 12 quarts or almost fill my stock pot to the top. When it's pureed I end up with about 8 quarts:

2 cartons reduced salt chicken broth
2 medium bottles v-8 OR 4 quarts home made canned tomatoes with the juice
to this add:
3-4 leeks with 6" of stem
3 long celery stalks cut in 3rds
1/2 large onion of your choosing
1 bag frozen spinach
1/2 large bag baby carrots
2 red bell peppers quartered
any other veggie that isn't too strong or pungent when cooked

While veggies cook, take 1 or 2 whole garlic bulbs and bake 45 minutes 350 degrees. I loosly wrap them in tinfoil

When veg. are tender, ladel the veg and liquiid into a blender or food processor and blend. Take the garlic cloves, add to the veggies and also puree. When these are fully baked, they will look dark brown and will be really mushy and push out of their skins when you squeeze

Add a bit of pepper to taste and a few liberal sprinkles Mrs. Dash

The soup freezes well. The garlic will sometimes smell strong in a container, but is not strong to taste!

Best of luck!

I have to many to list. . . learned to cook that way with my Nana.
Have been thinking it is time for me to actually write them down for my boys. . . they are great cooks, however, they do follow a recipe.

The anti-cancer soup sounds divine! I am going to have to try this!!

Thanks for the recipe Anna. I can't wait to try it! I wish I had some recipes to share, but I just use whatever is in the kitchen that day. I can never cook the same thing twice, sometimes that's a really good thing.

Anna, can I substitute green onions for the leeks? I do not grow them and they are not available at our grocery store. I like the idea of pureeing the veggies, makeing a smooth soup instead of chunky. I'll make homemade whole wheat/flaxseed bread to eat with it.

You could try the green onions in a small test batch and omit the bigger onion

Never have tried it for fear of messing up a good thing.

Almost bothced it when on a whim I decided to add asparagus.

Last minute I got really hungry and ate those steamed and not a part of the soup.

Not everyone likes asparagus and I'd rather not take the risk at this point.

I can make almost any cookie without a written recipe and I'm like Elise, if I have a recipe I improvise anyhow, either adding or subtracting something. The trick to cookies is the consistency of the dough...it has to be just right so they are not too flat and not too tall and dense. The other trick is to underbake them a bit and let them sit on the cookie sheet cooling for a couple of minutes before removing them to a cooling rack.

I would like that soup if it weren't pureed. I like something to chew in my soup, just a little. I am on an asparagus kick at the moment...can't get enough of it and it's nice and cheap right now.
