I'm devastated. We were at a baseball game this evening with my son and she was playing on the park playground with her baby sister and dad. She apparently slid down the slide funny and twisted her leg. It snapped right in the middle of her tibia. My husband took me and the kids home and then raced her to the ER. They gave her morphine, took x-rays and sure enough, confirmed the break. They were putting a cast on when my husband called with an update. I don't know if they'll admit her to watch her or send her home. I hope she can come home but man o man.
I'm so sad I don't know what to do. I've cleaned all the toilets. I scrubbed the trash bins. Dishes are done and put away. I finished folding all the laundry and put that away too. Took the garbage on the road..I'm pacing around feeling like I'm about to explode with sorrow. Maybe that's what I need to do....explode with sorrow..sounds messy!
Farmgirls, please keep her close....keep the light bright around her, please....~julia
*UPDATE* For today: Last night was the worst and I finally had a little cry which helped. We weren't able to stay on top of her pain. The dosing we were giving her was based on her weight when she started treatment over a year ago and she's gain over 10 lbs since then. So, all through the night she wriggled and writhed as she tried to rest with what medicine she had that helped the pain a little and made her sleepy. It really wasn't enough though. We were giving her pain meds every 4 hours. By 4 am she was screaming. Shrieking with this bewildered look in her eyes which were huge and tearless. "OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW!" stuttered from her mouth like an automatic weapon. It was so awful. We increased her pain medicine and within minutes she was comfortable and was able to sleep for a good 3 hours. PHEW!
I just got back a few minutes ago from taking her in to have her new cast put on. I haven't taken pictures yet, but I will. It is a GORGEOUS purple cast and I have to tell you, I already feel so relieved to have it. She'll have to wear it for 6 weeks at the minimum. She won't be allowed to weight bear for a month, but the orthopedic surgeon warned us that within a week or 2 the hardest part will keep her from walking on it! We were reassured that if she tries to hobble around on this full length cast that its fine. Crack me up! At the end of 4 weeks, they'll determine whether or not she can go to a smaller below the knee type cast and then start walking...see see...the surgeon didn't think her cancer would slow the healing process but it could so we have to watch her carefully. We go back for x-rays while still in the cast next week.
Farmgirls, I feel better. Thank you for all your wonderful words of support and encouragement. It really does mean the world to me! I feel like we've peaked with the worst part and now we are in the juggle-wuggle mode of figuring out to navigate these new and somewhat murky waters. I'm getting pretty good at that so I feel confident that we'll be just fine.
I'll post pictures soon!! Sending love and gratitude! ~julia being simple to simply be Farmgirl #30 www.julia42.etsy.com |

Oh what a horrible thing to happen, poor girl. And poor mom, now that you've cleaned all the bathrooms, you've gotten out some of the energy, you deserve to acknowledge the sorrow. It just seems like more than yolur share, take good care of yourself and your family. Sending good thoughts...

Oh my goodness! Poor little one. Allow yourself to feel sad, Juila--and then go the hospital and see your ever-smiling girl. Will be thinking of you all...

Julia, For goodness sakes, this is just too much! The only good feeling I'm getting out of this at the moment is that your house is probably clean. I know you have to keep yourself together for Aria, I mean she is the one with the broken leg, but you must take care of yourself too. So if going in the closet and screaming for awhile helps, please do that. I will keep your family in my thoughts.

I will be praying for you all with an extra helping for Aria. She is one tough cookie. It is easy to see where she gets it; but don't forget that it is still ok for you to take care of yourself as well. Keep us updated! Hugs~

My hell, Julia. Of all things...of all bright stars of a little person. How is she, and how are you this morning? You all have a permanent spot in the light around here, and I'm hoping that you were able to have a good scream or cry or whatever kind of explosion you needed last night, and that you're feeling level this morning. I have the feeling that Aria might need that kind of explosion, and your softness is just where it needs to land...Hugs...
XOXO, Libbie

I am so sorry this happened. It just seems so unfair with everything else that is going on in your lives. Give that sweet little girl a hug from me and keep us posted on how she and everyone else is doing.

Oh Julia! I am so sorry for Aria! Breaking bones is no fun! Make sure you have plenty of advil on hand (The sugar coating make them more attractive than tylenol!) I broke my arm when I was going into 3rd grade and my wrist when I was in 7th grade. Break out the sharpies and let everyone decorate the cast! She'll get a kick out of that!

Oh My Dear!!
You are being held really tightly in prayer right now. I know you must feel like you've worn a path right thru your floors. But that's what mommy's do -- I've walked probably 34,596 miles when my son's have been really ill -- or hurt.
Please know we're all thinkin' of ya!!

J I was just getting ready to send your "farmgirl of the month" gift out today (Technically it is still April), But now I will have to repack it. Or perhaps this calls for two boxes to send. The orginal one for you, momma, and now a new one for Aria (unfortunately it won't be as grand as the quilt but I will do my best).
Poor sweet, she was so excited to feel well and be back in school to show off her missing tooth. Well at least she has a fab momma and sister who is at home to hang with. When I was a kid broke a lot of bones (we had a three wheeler) and nothing beats ice cream and a great cartoon.
Give Doc a super big hug from us Farmgirls, we all know how stressfull it is to take our babes to the ER (even if we are Dr. ourselves). I am sure his nerves are shot. Y'all are fantastic parents and are doing an amazing job. Be extra nice to each other.
Tons of worry, concern and love your way, h.

I don't know how to put in the original message "UPDATE" would someone tell me how??
Ok, we are simply managing Aria's pain today, which is intense.
We have been moving her from the bed to one of 2 couches; living room or the playroom. She has a fair appetite and we are encouraging her to drink as much as she can. She's just wiped. Tomorrow morning we go in for her full cast. I have no idea how long she'll have to be in the cast. I have no idea about when she can weight bear..crutches, bathing etc...This is all new territory for me. It is a HUGE bummer but once again we are forced to really live one moment at a time, one day at a time. You know what? That all sound so nice and lovely theoretically and philosophically but man it is a drag to actually do. I suppose I wouldn't feel so crummy about it if the circumstances surrounding our reasons weren't so crummy but there it is....it is just plain hard. It is stupid little stuff too...So this afternoon is lovely but I can't let the baby outside to play because I have to be inside with Aria. She's just too fragile to bring outside and be comfortable. I know it is only for a few days and before we know it we'll bring out a lounge chair and she'll be fine but we've been doing this for months and months and months. little things; going to the store with 3 little kids; one who is a baby that I have to watch like a hawk and another that I'll have to carry everywhere...for, I don't know...weeks maybe? Taking my son to school and picking him up toting Aria around...Sure I could get the help of neighbors but I say that as if it would be no big deal for Reo...you know what? He's never driven to school with a neighbor..It probably would be fine but it's another first that is hard. Aria won't be able to go to school anymore...These things...in the grand scheme of things are no big deal...but living them day to day moment to moment when we already do that with issues related to cancer....well, I'm frankly out of breath!
We'll totally manage. We'll find a groove. I have no worry about it whatsoever...I'm just grieving is all...
I'll know more tomorrow and will include some pictures for you!!
thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers and well wishes..it means the world to me!! Keep us close. ~julia
