I recently decided to try her shiny sink thing, my husband thinks I am crazy, and recently said that if he wins the lottery he will hire someone to keep the sink shiny. I am having a hard time with her only five magazines idea. It's hard to throw away Mother Earth News. It is my inspiration.
I also cannot bring myself to move the dish drainer off the counter. I am always washing a bottle or sippy cup, and need it several times a day.
Does anone else follow, or try to follow flylady.

I take what I need from flylady and toss the rest. Some of her stuff is a little annoying and not functional for my home.

I like the 15 minute room clean up. I try it when ever I have a free 15 minutes. I tried the pick up 29 objects and toss them. failed at that one to. I do try to take my favorite older magazines on Dr. visits and then I leave them their for others to enjoy. I can only toss things in the direction of someone who will enjoy them and can't afford them. I'm with you I leave the sink strainer out 24/7. I do dry the dishes and put them away I just don't have the room for the strainer to go anywhere else. I like to check out the fly lady every now and then, it's fun.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

I checked it out awhile ago but got tired of the 10 emails a day. I still try to keep my sink shinny, or at least clean up the kitchen each night. I found it hard to just clean for the 15 min or whatever.. in a room and then be done. If I'm gonna take the time to clean, I'll clean the whole room. KWIM? And my rooms aren't that big.
Like on TipNut, they have a tip to clean your fridge in 10 min pieces. I can clean my whole fridge in 10 min if I want, why would I only do one shelf?

But take what info that works and toss the rest like Tasha-Rose said.

Remember what she says you don't have to be perfect.

Also remember we are NOT all the same.

SHE (Flylady) has a dish washer. It sounds like you do not. I know I do not have one. So I keep my dish drain out too! BUT, my sink rarely has dirty dishes in it, there is clean dishes in the dish drain. IF I put my dish drain away the sink would be full of dirty dishes while the drain was neat and tidy put away! lol hahaha IF I had a dishwasher, I could possibly put away my drain as well, but I don't. So I have to adjust to my needs. And my needs are to keep the dish drain out and do dishes as I go! :)

So while her ideas are GREAT it's only guide lines, we still have to use our own common sense on what will work for us.

Remember she got her basic ideas from Pam and another lady (can't think of the other lady's name), BUT, their program didn't work for her exactly so she adjusted it to fit her. And likewise Flylady's exact method won't work for all of us, but the basic premise is what we need to get out of it, and then adjust it to what works for us. :)

Trish - I too tried her program and the best advice I took away from it was get dressed even to your shoes. It helped me get motivated. But I couldn't keep up with all the e-mails to I had to give it up. I do use some of her ideas for inspiration now and then, so like the other farmgirls I use what I can and get rid of the rest. I like to try to learn from others who may have a better way.

I need to go back and start following a few of her tips. I need to be more organized.

I did see this really cool organizer that glues or screws to the back of your under sink cupboard. It holds your strainers, gives a place for your cloth to hang and holds your scrubbies as well. I think that would be a good way to have your strainer be out of the way but still really handy- I would buy it with good intentions...but the reality is that my strainer would probably be out all the time anyway. We don't have a dishwasher either... unless you count me!

All the emails and lists of things to do every day drove me nuts! But I still keep a shiny sink and make sure I put out a clean dishcloth and towel every night.

FLY stands for Finally Loving Yourself.

And the lady who runs it, Marla, likes to Fly fish......so hince her name, Flylady.

It's basically a organization site, that gets to the internal reasons we are disorganized, which usually is because at our roots, we don't love ourselves.....at least not enough.

I got her book off of paperbackswap and learned a lot of ideas from it. I get her daily digest (just one e-mail a day containing all the daily e-mails) and read it sometimes and delete others. RIght now, with three kids, homeschooling, and animals I'm lucky just to take a shower and get a load of laundry done!

I think she has some great ideas and she has helped me a lot. She's a bit mushy for me, but I just ignore that part. I have learned you can't organize clutter and I have got rid of a lot of stuff and it has been freeing, I'll tell you! All the MEN, Countryside, and Backwoods Home magazines I've been saving since the 80's that I thought I couldn't live without-well, I realized I never go back and look through them, not ONCE, so I'm passing them on to another farmgirl that can read them and use them. I do know, that when I use her program, my house is clean. It's like anything, if you do it, it works.

Psssshhhh! I'm disorganized because I probably love myself too much! Hmmmm....clean out a drawer or read a book, plant a flower, play with the dogs, gossip with my baby girl, snuggle with the hubs? Yep, I'm a bit too selfish to be ultra-organized!

Cherry, that's the thing........hehehe She says that's what we think, exactly what you said. But in the mean time, actually because of disorganization we lose time often-in the morning we may not get out the door on time because we don't know where the kids shoes are! Didn't get breakfast done cause we didn't have time.....etc etc. But, with her system..it's about being organized to actually have MORE time to spend with our children and doing things we love. So funny that you said it like that.....because that's exactly what she says we all say..and it's so true.

Yes, I am fluttering along. Some days I do really well and a lot of them I don't. It's hard to change. I don't follow it exactly, as a lot of what I do is worked around my fatigue level on any given day. I don't know how the MS will be from day to day. A lot of her ideas are good, though. I especially love her huge calendar and the stickers.

A lot of you have already said what I was going to...too many e-mails, too much mushy-stuff. I set up a control journal per her instructions (which works really well for my small household) and ignored the rest of her advice.

I've been contemplating her routines/ systems. My husband and I have been feeling like we've lost control and are in need of some systems. However, FlyLady looks like it could be really complicated and rigid. I'm not sure if or how far I want to jump in... good to know that others have taken pieces and left the rest.

One of the things from Flylady that I have trouble with is the before bed routine. That's the only time I get with him and I tend to just leave everything till morning. I'd be interested in hearing how/what everyone does and changes that you made to fit your unique situation.

I'm started my Control Journal this morning. Started my bedtime routine last night. I'm making some modifications to it, but we're going to give it a good try in our house.

This is my first experience with this, but we started Sunday night, and so far its Thursday and I've stayed on top of dishes, laundry, and general picking up and wiping down. My husband came into the bathroom this morning and said "whoa, you've been awake and dressed every morning this week before I even have the chance to wake you up." (He's been letting me sleep in to 6:30am since I'm pregnant.) Its been very nice to feel on top of everything and I don't have to feel guilty about taking a little me time! And since my hubby is very big on having a clean house (and usually I could take it or leave it) well he's just tickled pink. I shined the sink the other day and he came in to wash out a lamb bottle and when he finished he dried it out!
