....always put the grocery cart in the designated area in the parking lot? Well, I don't. But today I did, and I must say it made me feel better. I always feel guilty shoving it out of the way. And I've always admired people that DOES put the grocery cart in its designated "cart spot". Anyhow, I done a good job today, and I hope to do something even better tomorrow. So, here's a challenge. Tomorrow or this weekend, if your a "cart abuser", place the cart back where it goes. Or even better, take it back in the store, which will be my next challenge. If your a "cart hero" and always put it back, then give yourself a new challenge for this week and lets see if we can pay it forward so to speak and pay forward all the blessings we receive from MJF. Please check in and let me know what you done this week!

I don't think I ever put the cart back in the spot- only because I almost always have kids in the car and I'm freaked about turning my back and having them disappear- (crazy I know- but I am certifiable)- I do put in in a spot out of the way of other cars- so I figure that is good enough-(plus- aren't I contributing for the employment of others?)

I always put it back. Now I don't have a car so am mostly by bus. But I still always put it back because
1 We have to put money in the handle (deposit) to get it out and I want my money back, lol
2 There are cars around and I don't want the cars to be dented or worse

Ever since that one time I didn't put it back and the cart ran away down the sloping parking lot of the commissary, THEN hit the nice man that helps with our groceries, I have put my cart back :)

I usually park next to the cart corral and just walk the quarter mile. It's not worth the waste on my time to sift around for the closest parking spot near the door.

Only time I don't return it is if i'm in a real hurry and parked away from where the cart can conveniently be placed. This happens maybe once or twice a year

I think Aldi has the right idea. Low prices due to carts beng returned B/C everyone wants their quarter back!

I'm with Sandra. I try to park near a cart return but if I can't, the cart stays where I am parked. My 3 kids come first!!!

I do the same as Anna- park next to the cart park and walk. That way I don't have to go very far to put the cart away. There are several in our grocery store parking lot so there is usually an open space.

I put the cart back every time, with only rare exceptions. And I do what many of you have said: try to park close to the cart corral, rather than close to the door.

I've never thought about the difficulty of leaving kids alone in the car to return the cart. I can see the conflict. I wonder how supermarket planners look at this issue? I mean, how much does it matter to them whether people put the carts away or not?

i usually park near the shopping cart "bin" in the parking lot so most of the time i return it. BUT, if i'm not close enough and the parking lot is busy (with people walking around), then sometimes i'll just leave it wedged inbetween two spaces. incidently, it's not that i'm too lazy to return it, but.... i had a friend who was pumping gas in her car and while she was at the pump, someone distracted her for a moment and at the same time, another person was breaking into her car and stole her purse from the other side of the car! so since i usually put my purse in the front of the car while i'm putting the groceries in either the back seat or sometimes the trunk, i'm leary of leaving the car for a moment!!

Yep, this definitely is a personal and child safety issue. If I am out shopping I look for two things when I choose a parking spot--a place near the cart return area, and if it is night, a spot directly under a street lamp. I load my children first into their seats so I know they are secure, then I load the groceries. I carry a tote or satchel as my purse so that is always crosswise across to my opposite shoulder so it can't be grabbed. After putting in the purchases I close the hatch, LOCK THE CAR (with the kids still inside) then return the cart. I am with Sandra on this--I am vigillant about the safety of me and my kids.

Yes, I do!!! I had a cart scrape the side of my Jeep and I was not happy, so I try to do common courteousy. And yes, if Charlie is with me, I lock the car, return and come back. I actually try to park near a cart return to make life easier.

Oh and speaking of trying to Pay if forward. I once tried to hold doors for everyone but here in Texas, true Southern Men still exist. I tried holding a door for one and he wouldn't budge until I came through. HA!! It was a standoff in the Tractor Supply doorway. : )

So now I just try to smile alot... : )

I generally walk the cart back to the store, or put it in the cart area. Depending what store I am shopping at. big town or small town. MB

I always put the cart back, except if it is totally pouring and the cart place is far away. Usually we are lucky and get a spot next to or not far from the car return. There are many cart returns in our Wegman's parking lots. My husband is actually nutty about getting his certain spot!! He will drive around 3 times to get the right spot, he kills me,walk already!

Always. And I always make sure I let someone who didn't put their cart away see me walking my cart to the corral...sorry, my car has been banged up a couple of times by runaway carts and I wasn't too thrilled, especially after I had just paid it off. Grr.

Bridget, I hate it too when you try to pull into a spot and find that it's clogged up with abandoned carts.

I always drive old cars, so I don't have much to lose when it comes to the appearance or the paint condition. I've more than once used the nose of my car to nudge carts out of the spot as I pull in (I do watch carefully to make sure I'm not pushing them into anyone else's car). I especially enjoy doing this when the person who ditched the cart is still there getting into their car! It makes them nervous ;)

I try to put mine back, but I admit there have been a few times where I will put them onto the grassy median, but I neverleave them just rolling around in a parking lot.

One time at a Wal-Mart there were about 5 carts that had just been abandoned in the middle and a wind picked up so I put them all together and stuggled them to a cart stall. One older gentleman saw me struggling with them so he came over and helped. It was really nice to have someone help like that!

Sandra, I like your answer!

It depends if I'm in a hurry or not. A lot of times (should I admit this??) I put the front wheels up over a curb so it doesn't go anywhere and there isn't a cart thingy near. Usually, there are a bunch of other carts doing the same (in the Wmart parking lot, which is being remodeled).

When I drove a big rig, we used to stop at Wmart for most of our shopping, I would lock my truck doors to put the cart back. Even with dogs and hubby in there, asleep, someone could still get in while my back was turned.

Nowadays, with the way hyper-hysterical people are about leaving kids in the car if you're not in it, I'd be afraid to leave a kid in a car to return the cart to the bin. I'd leave the car where-is as long as it couldn't move and run into another car. Then the next person to park there will be annoyed no end that there is a cart in the space when they try to park. I brought this up cuz someone I know actually got screamed at by another shopper for walking away from the car while the kids were in it. Long story but that's the gist of the story.

Winona :-)

I usually put my cart back, or have one of my boys do it for me. Sometimes we even put MORE carts back, if they are close, or on our way to the cart return. I do admit though, that once in awhile I will park it out of the way, but not put it where it goes. But that's not very often. I've had those carts hit my car and scratch it, and I certainly didn't like that, so I try hard not to let it happen to OTHERS on my account.

When the boys were little I'd put the groceries, etc... in the car first, take the kids WITH me to the cart return (cause their was usually one of them IN the cart), then we'd all go back to the car together, or, if the bags weren't too heavy, we'd park the cart first and all CARRY the bags to the car. I never let them out of my SIGHT!!!! As they got older, I worried less about them being snatched (I figured the OLDEST would be gone an hour or so and the person who took him would bring him STRAIGHT BACK!!!! LOL!!!! Just kidding!)

However those with young children do it, a mother can NEVER be too cautious when protecting her child/children. I'm a mama BEAR and proud of it!!!

I always try to put them back and have even gone back in with them. But there have been a few times when I've had grandkids or have been in a hurry that I have not. At Aldi's, where we have to put a quarter in to get a buggy, I have never seen them out all over the place. I think that's a good way to get people to put them back. But that does get rid of jobs. It also keeps their food prices lower than most places, too. I have seen the buggy guys out there getting the buggies. They don't look like they are having a good time at all.

Depends on the weather. We are fortunate or unfortuante enough to have a disabled licence plate and we get to park "up front". That is if there are any empty spaces. Problem is the cart parking space is always quite a ways away. If it is 110, I leave it on the yellow line (between spaces) also if it is below freezing and windy. If Ole Ron is not with me, I don't usually take up a disabled space. Then again, it depends on the weather.

I'm almost NEVER alone so one of my boys return the cart to the proper spot.
If I'm out with both day care kids, then I usually let the bagger help me out.
