Hi Everyone!

Our family has a large range of allergies from extreme environmental allergies in my sister all the way through to food allergies that manifest in red cheeks and irrational rage in my daughter and once upon a time- myself!

After our visit to the allergist yesterday, I was a bit shocked that more allergists are not as aware of food coloring allergies and the rage reaction.

On my blog over the next couple of days I am going to try to lay our our family story and experiences the best I can and then start chronicling Nora's experiences as well. I have started taking photos and will be showing photos of her face when she is going through a rage reaction and if we can time it right next time, we will try to videotape her reaction as well.

Please come visit us at www.allergyjourneys.blogspot.com

Please feel free to leave comments and your own stories. I would like for the blog to become a resource for people who have to deal with allergies (or have dealt with allergies) to come to see they aren't alone out there. And when the allergist says "Oh that is so rare hardly anyone has that...(in regards to allergy to food coloring)" Then that person can then see on the blog that no they aren't alone and there are other out there having to go through this journey as well.

Thanks!

Oh my gosh your poor baby. That is hard to watch on your blog. I just want to grab her and hug her but I know that won't help. My son was diagnosed with ADHD. (though I was having him tested with what I believed was Asperger's) He had EXTREME meltdowns. I have taken about 90% of colorings, artificial preservatives, high fructose corn syrup and most processed foods out of his diet. It has done wonders. Though it is hard to keep them away from him at school parties, etc. I am surprised more physicians are not embracing the idea of these things causing problems in kids.

It was a holistic specialist who suggested the reaction of food colorings, preservatives, etc. and to remove all of them from his diet. (I also tried gluten and milk but they didn't seem to have much of an affect on his behavior though I still limit them)

I am fighting HORRIBLE seasonal allergies right now. Oak. Then it will be cedar, then ragweed. I am about to pack up and head north! It has been weeks of pollen count off the charts and no medications help and the holistic ones just take the edge off. Yuck!

By the way... I just love your daughter's name! (I am a big fan of The Thin Man movies with Nick and Nora Charles)

Many Hugs!

Thanks Kristi!

I am working on a new post about what they have termed "Cerebral Allergies" The allergies that affect brain chemestry which is what causes the behavior response that you saw on the video.

And if you believe it- that was actually her calming down! She had been about 10x worse just minutes before. One of these days I am going to let her "do her worst" during the attack for about a minute and get that on tape. I think people have a hard time realizing how extreme the swings of behavior can be!
