Let me know when you can make it, Jenny, and I'll meet you there! If you could spare a whole day, we can hit Handmaiden, Pipers and the Morman Handcrafts store. Woo hoo! Maybe Stuie'd make us some lunch, too.

Happy Wishes!

THAT would be wonderful. Guess I will have to wait until after Mona calves..if she ever does!!! I could get up early..milk her before the kids go to school and then leave as early as possible and still have at least a few hours up that way once I get there...dang....I wish there was an EASY button for driving 2 or 3 hours distances...my downfall is that long drive each way..eats up all my time!!!! I will let you know..sounds like a great plan!!!!!

Your yo yo quilts are great, where did you find them? and where do you keep all your finds, cabin means somewhat small doesn't it? or is it more LIKE the ponderosa cabin? I made about 20 more yo yo's yesterday, cut out a bunch of circles this morning. Also ordered that book you talked about in one of your sites. The seven seasons farm. book one and two I ordered. MAILED YOUR TABLECLOTH THIS MORNING.

Frannie,
I would like to do a yo-yo swap. I already have a lot done. Sounds like fun.

The original link that I had for making yo-yo's is not good anymore. Here's another one that also tells how to make a quilt out of them. Count me in on a yo-yo swap too!

I've designated an orphan plasticware lid as my new yo-yo template. I wrote YO-YO on it so DH won't pitch it. I haven't started cutting them out yet (seems a bit rediculous to start ANOTHER new project with everything I have to do to get ready for the move) but I'm going to stick it in with my scraps so it will be easy for me to find when I get a change to make some. What a great way to use up those itty scraps I always have.

in rummaging through some laces and linens last night .. i discovered this teeny little dolly yo-yo quilt i made a couple years ago ...

these little yo's are one inch each .. there are 7 across and 8 down. great for a little dolly bed.

about our yo-yo swap .. how's about we try and get 20 of us to do this .. and do ONE yo for each .. that should be somewhat manageable .. and let's say they all be in EARTHY tones .. let's find something in NATURE .. and then find a pattern (rather than plain fabric) that is this shade .. can be spring flowers .. daffodils .. spring leaves .. soft shades of green .. the bark of a tree .. any herb or garden flower .. ANYTHING nature ... and of course, describe what inspired your fabric choice .. and a picture would be great too! ... and ANNIE T .. hows about if you measure that plastic lid of yours and tell us it's diameter .. how many inches across .. so we can each draw one for ourselves. (oh .. if we don't get TWENTY .. we can adjust and do this in groups of ten of us that make two yo's for each of us) .. etc. etc. .. if we get more than twenty .. we girls can figger out how to adjust for that too .. so that we each get 20 yo's .. then .. let's each of us add a 'border' .. and share what our teensy little table topper looks like .. we could plan this for the month of APRIL .. but could get a head start on them soon's we get that measurement.

soooooo .. just post HERE if you would like to do the "YO" sampler swap .. and i'll pull the names together and let you know who to send to. what sayeth thou?

the only thing left to decide is whether or not we want to 'turn' those little round edges before sewing our gathering thread .. or do we want them more 'rustic' by NOT turning the edges under. (goes a LOT faster that way). let's talk about it and decide .. and all go with the 'majority' .. they should all be consistent though.

THE ONES Iam doing now are rustic, but I can go either way, so what ever you all decide is fine.

I've been turning my edges. I think they'll last longer that way, since the thread will be going thru 2 layers of fabric, and not be on a raw edge.

My "lid" yo-yo template measures 4.5 inches in diameter (from edge to edge). I really like the size yo-yo I end up with. Not too tiny to make life miserable, but not to big to be hokey-looking. :)

This yoyo sampler she made in High School "Home-ec" class. I think it would be fun to add to it.

Oh Yes and add me to the Yo sampler exchange!

I have a vintage pattern from a 1953 Family Circle magazine for a clown doll made from the yo yo's if anyone is interested. That would be a cute way to use your yo yo's also. This pattern uses 52 yo yo's 3 inches across (finished size) for the arms and legs, and 13 5 inch yo yo's for body.
I can copy and email it to any one who wants it.

I was cleaning and organizing my sewing room today and found an article I had clipped from Sew News magazine on making yo yo's. If anyone would like a copy please email me with your address and I'll send it out.

thanks annie .. 4.5 inches it will be! we'll do it in groups of TWENTY and we'll make ONE 'yo' in 'nature' colors .. ha! that is just about color i do believe! but remember .. you have to post to all of us the 'inspiration' for the fabric you choose.

when we're ready to 'officially' sign-up .. i'll post a new heading "Yo-Yo Table Topper Swap" and have you each e-mail me .. somehow's or other, i'll collect all your addresses and e-mail them to everyone. p.s. if we have more (or less) than twenty .. we'll figger it out when the time comes.
