Couple of questions for you fellow farmgirls....I would like to make a Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my daughter (she turns one on Thursday...my how time flies!) Anyhoo....has anyone ever made one of these? Any suggestions on how to embroider the blocks, where to get patterns for the Sues, and also I need to know how big a twin size quilt needs to be. Also, how do you come up with a color scheme...could I put a different colored dress on each Sue and still use one main color for the material that will bind the blocks together???
Try this website- http://sunbonnetsue.com/patterns.html They have tons of patterns!! Also, there is an Umbrella Lady quilt layout that will show you the size for a twin quilt. The blocks are very large on the one shown, but you can adjust to your own blocks very easily.
A twin size mattress is approximately 39 inches by 83 inches. Dimensions for a comforter for this would be 63 x 87. That includes a 12" drop on sides and bottom of quilt. A bedspread at 80 x 106 would incude a 20 1/2 inch drop and 10 1/2 inch pillow tuck. A coverlet at 71 x 101 includes a 16" drop on sides and bottom and 10" extra length for pillow tuck. This would cover mattress and box springs but not reach the floor. Hope this helps.
