Teresa Sue~thank you so much for setting this up. I have missed visiting with each of you, also. What a great idea this is. Thank you so much for the beautiful birthday card. Congratulations, on being a grandma again. Enjoy your trip.

Corrine~your family is in my prayers. So sorry to hear about this difficult time. Thank you for the beautiful birthday card.

Rene~great work. I love the cold frames and new fence. WOW!

Tina~I hope all goes well and quick for the sale and purchase of your new home.

Dawn~enjoy your getaway. Maybe you can try those spacesaver bags for your BBB trip.

Kelley~still no package from you. Sorry!

I have laid down newspaper and plastic where my garden will be. I am starting all my seeds indoors and will maybe get them into the greenhouse in 2 weeks. I am so excited that spring is coming. This winter has been too long.

Missed you all and so glad we can have tea and visit.

Ruth

hey,
have been busy today scrubbing off windows inside and out, washing off the front door and shutters, and back french doors, washing/wiping down garage door(with daughters help on the huge garage door).
Uggghh. Then we made sure all light fixtures have new/working bulbs.
I've got the stove going on clean cycle (4 hrs 20 minutes for it to go through its "clean cycle" uugggh..makes for a warm kitchen/but one less thing to have to scrub)
only about 5 things left on my to do list..whoot! whoot! yay!
Hubby cleaned out the gutters today while I did the other outdoor window/door cleaning. And he replaced a large master bedroom light fixture.
Now I'm wiping down blinds in the office area.
Then will tackle my bedroom interior windows. My daughter jetted off some of the exterior windows/screens so those are all clean now.
Things are definitely moving forward and getting there.yay!
I still have a little packing to do, then some interior deep cleaning.
Hubby and daughter are off to the store to grab dinner, and a welcome mat and new hall rug and new office rug.
It was an absolutely lovely day out today. Sun shining with a nice breeze and birds a chirping away..it actually was a good day to be out cleaning windows..ha.
Hoping everyone is having a great weekend.
I'll be heading out to an area nursery or two in the next day or so to grab some bright cheery flowers for by the front door/walkway and to use to create a cheery flower bed by the back door.
That's how my day went today..busy, busy.:0)

I feel strongly that MJF farmgirls are all one. Mavens, other groups, whatever, I love praying for all of you and reading your thoughts, and just being together. I know when things get so big, it is nice to get a small group, but, that does not take away from the fact that farmgirls are all in it together!

Gosh, it has been the most beautiful weather here. My garden is doing well because it is loving the cfool nights. I hope your gardens are growing too, be they family gardens of loved ones, veggie plants, or farmgirl dreams.

Oh, and I love Thoreau! Your quote from him is a great one.

Love you all!

I'mmm baaaackkkkkk! I had a really nice time. Very quiet. Now that I'm home with the dogs barking every five minutes it sounds.... so noisy. I drove and drove and drove. I steered away from all inter-states if possible and just took back routes and a map. It was so nice. So many HUGE farms up this way for sale---it was so sad. I wish I was Trump rich, cuz I'd buy 'em up and make CSA's or something positive outta them... Like rural learning centers for inner city kids, or animal therapy centers. This one farm was in such excellent condition. I even pulled in for a look see. So sad to see so many wonderful farms for sale. It really made me appreciate what i have.

All my plants are about 2-3 inches high now. I'm going to try to transplant some in my "kegger party" cups this weekend.
My shed is all loaded with goodies for sale and now I've just gotta get out there and price them all. I must say that its pretty dern cute!

Welp, time for me to hit the shower and start my day. I've got laundry, groceries, and cleaning to do. I love you all!

Kelly, saw your post on DOE and just want to say that you can be Cheryl's and my farmgirl friend from afar. We are lucky to have found each other as we do have a lot of the same interests in common. And I have lived here for 5 yrs and really only had my daughter to hang with. (I know she's glad I found a friend) Getting into MJ has really opened many doors for me and I'm sure you will find someone near you too. Hang in there.

Welcome back Dawn. The farm situation sounds scary. It just opens avenues for the wealthy business man who wants to put in hundreds of town houses. I wish I were wealthy too cus' I'm right there with you.

I was gonna till the garden today, but we now have an inch or better of snow again. yukkkkkkkk
Everyone have a good day.

My Clematis' are COVERED in bloom pods, by this time next week, they'll be covered in flowers!! I'm sooooo glad that spring is here!!! Oh, except for the part where our vehicles are covered in a thick layer of yellow pollen!!...lol....oh, well, life can't be too perfect!!!

Hey Tina- What were the bulbs we traded for again? I planted them outside for spring and summer.

I dug up my strawberries from the old place to plant at the new. Along with some mint and a succulent plant!

Nora's birthday was today and one of her gifts was a kid's gardening set and her own seeds! How cool is that! I can't wait to turn over the ground and get the garden installed.

The new house is so much nicer! I wish you could all come over to my house for tea!

Alee_they are spider lilies. they will bloom out big and white flowers that have large "leg" petals/like big tendril like petals that stick out around the base flower/very fascinating.
Happy birthday to your little gal.

Thanks Tina- When I transplanted them, some of them had HUGE roots, and some seemed to be just the bulb, though all are growing.

Good morning~ladies,

Dawn~glad you had a nice time. Wish I could buy up some of those farms or at least one.

Kelley~spread the warmth with the rest of us.

We built an enclosure for our garden. We need to wrap it in chicken wire~hopefully this will keep the squirrels and rabbits out. Especially the squirrels in this area they are crazy and out of control. My dog goes crazy chasing after them. They get into everything.

Working on school with the kids and trying to get some things accomplished.

Hope to catch up more later.

Can you beleive this weather. I woke up sick this morning and I swear it is the constant flux in the temp.....I did put straw all around all my plants tho. just cause I dont trust any of it. I planted 50 strawberry starts yesterday, along with rhubarb bulbs, 4 huckleberry bushes. onions and lettuce ( in my cold frame).. so it was a productive day yesterday.

I'm still too gunshy of the weather to do any planting:) Last year it snowed the whole last week of March so...
I've started some raking/weeding though and hopefully after this week I will be caught up on running errandsfrom the week and a half of vacation and I can just come home after work and play in the dirt. My snowdrops are blooming and other bulbs coming up - very encouraging

I am hoping this melts soon! I want to get back outside and finish getting my lawn fixed up for the spring!

Guess what- the people that lived here took these nice flower bed areas and threw gravel on them! I am so disgusted! I am going to have to sift out all this gravel! Sheesh! But the good news is that I can plant a LOT of things there!

went to the nursery today and got some coleus, ivy, marigolds and geraniums to create a huge combination planted pot..I have this huge about 4 ft tall Spanish style terra cotta vase that sits by my front door. It has a large terra cotta pot that sits down inside of that...I currently have a large jade plant in the pot by the door, but am going to create one with the plants I found today. It should look pretty when I get it done.

Alee, if you mulch over the bulbs I'd think they'd be o.k...just cut back the parts that froze. They die down in the winter here but always manage to bounce back.

Well our snow has melted again but gonna be in the low teens again tonight. Bulbs have come up outside so fertilized them. My seeds indoors are beginning to sprout so that's encouraging. Instead of the wood stove I decided to bake. Made banana nut bread (recipe on my blog site) and now have brownies ready to come out. Other than that, just cleaning house. Those of you with warm weather hope you soak up some of the sunshine for me. Have a great day everyone.

Hi Tina- I covered them with some table clothes that I had warmed up in the dryer. Today parts of the leaves were really limp (obvious freezing damage) but the part closer to the ground was still nice and strong. So I covered them up for the night again today, and will trip the frozen off bits.

yep, you'll need to cut all the leaves off and hope for the best now. we still get a freeze here in early April around Easter..that's typically our last frost/freeze date..so I'd think you all are due for a couple more freeze dates for sure in your area before bulbs that are used to the tropics can actually go outdoors. good luck.

Hi Maven Sisters! Sooooo glad to be home! Being gone, I don't have anything baked, but I pulled a loaf of bread from the freezer(I baked before I left) and we will have thick crusty homemade bread toast with my homemade rhubarb jam with our tea today. I guess I need to pick up some peppermint tea for you Tina, lol.

I had a wonderful trip to Nevada, so warm, soooooo suuuunnnnny. I come home to a soggy garden and snow. Bleh!!!! I had not been back to Ely for 45 years. I was a bit apprehensive, but it turned out great. I can cross it off my bucket list, lol. I even had a couple of "ah ha" moments as they say. I was annoyed my suitcase was searched, but hey, I imagine the antique cast iron dutch oven lid my step great grandmother used might have set off some kind of alarm, LOL! It must have been very confusing to the security people if they were trying to profile me, as I had the cast iron lid, lilac suckers with dirt, a boot knife my brother gave me, and a quilting book my sister-in-law gave me, lol The lilac suckers were from the house where I lived until I was nine, I'm so excited about them, I'm planting them in pots until we get settled, wherever that shall be. I have a cousin that is just starting to garden, so I am going to send her some heirloom seed.

The only bad thing about the trip was my brother got a speeding ticket just outside Eureka, Nevada, for $83 and I lost my wallet on the plane and had to come home and cancel all my debit, credit cards, go to the bank set up a new savings account because I had the acct # in my wallet(I know, dumb, dumb, dumb) and I have to get a new drivers license. The airline called and they have my wallet in San Diego so I have to figure out how to get it home. They said call fed x and set up an account so they can ship it to me, well, that's kind of hard when you have to have a credit card to set up an account and your card is in San Diego in your lost wallet and it's been cancelled to boot, LOL! Oh well, even that can't deflate my good mood!

Lets see......what's new, Oh, I did quit at the cafe before I left. I am hoping to get into the cemetery to clean up broken branches this week. I am rarin' to go with decluttering and spring cleaning. I had the hubs back the horse trailer up to the house for a trip to the dump, lol

Nothing like a trip to shake you up, make you realize what a wonderful life you have and give you some pizzazz to get on with it~

It is sooooo gooood to hear from all of you, I'll be check ing in to refill your teacups and catch up with all of you, y'all are so dear to me, you can't even imagine.

Corinne, dear sister, a special, special prayer for you.

Love you All!!

Happy Wednesday gals!! It cleared off, and has finally turned out to be a beautiful day!!! I sent Dawn a picture of the view off of my front porch last night, and I wish you all could be here to enjoy that view with me in the georgous weather! And the air smells SOOOO great, all of the wisteria and Jessamine make it smell like a parfume garden around here!! We could all fit on my 12 ft wide by 75 ft long covered front porch!!! I could serve tea, or coffee, or wine, or lemonade, with some home made truffles for us, or maybe some of my famous garlic cheddar herb buttermilk biscuits with banana pepper chutney!! We could all just chit chat and enjoy the view of the pond and bridge and Island, and all of the purple wisteria draped through all the trees!!

Anyhow, I'm fixing to get ready for a very last minute vacation!!!! Sterling and I are running another 10 day pre 1840 rein-actment at Fort Wash**a in Oklahoma, which is where we met, and fell in love, and ironically, we have never missed that rendezvous since!! Even when I was pregnant with Emily (5 days until my due date) we went to this rendezvous!! This year was going to be the first time we would have to miss it because DH has a different job, but he just found out that his boss told him to go ahead and take the whole week off!!! Needless to say, packing for a 10 day rendezvous with a 2 year old and 3 year old is no easy task, especially with only 2 days notice!!!!!!!!!!! But I love a challenge!! It will be great to get away from electricity, phones, tv, computer, all things modern for a while.....going and doing these rendezvous always refreshes me! They make me even more thankful for all that we have these days (well, not ALL things!!..lol) but, it's nice to be able to go out and trully ROUGH it! And there is NOTHING like sleeping in a tipi, under deer skins and elk hides, and wearing buckskins all week! I'm sure some of you think I'm a crazy nut!!! But that's ok, if this world didn't have crazy nuts like me, it sure would be boring!!! And I have to admit, I don't actually have a brain tanned buckskin dress (YET!), but I do wear buckskin leggings and mocs, with praire skirts and shirts, and a wool capote made from a Hudson Bay blanket when it's cold. Anyhow, most of you probably find this boring, so I'll hush about it now....but I'm just so excited!! We haven't been to a rendezvous since this time last year!!!! And we usually do several a year, so I have been having some major withdrawals!! Hope all of you are having a great Wednesday!!!
