I know we have done this before; but it always interests me...
so lets share what are we reading now.

I have been reading multiple books at once which is rare for me.
Currently I have going:
Roots by Alex Haley
Seneca Falls & the Origins of the Womens's Rights Movement by Sally G McMillen
and
Founding Faith: Providence, Politics & the Birth of Religious Freedom in America by Steven Waldman

I read non fiction slower than fiction so I read The Secret Life of Bees in between (after reading Rebekah's article in the latest issue of MaryJanes Magazine!)
So share with me girls...What are you reading?

Hey Bonnie,
Just finished The Reserve by russell Banks and am now into The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas. Have really been into a lot of depression era themed reading lately. Seems to go with farmgirls. You know that make it do--do without attitude.

Right now I am reading Selected Poems by Czeslaw Milosz 1931-2004...

I just adore his poetry

Excerpt from Slow River....

There has not been for a long time a spring as beautiful as this one; the grass, just before mowing, is thick and wet with dew. At night bird cries come up from the edge of the marsh, a crimson shoal lies in the east till morning hours. In such a season, every voice becomes for us a shout of triumph....

I'm reading A Promise for Ellie by Lauraine Snelling. Its the first in the Daughters of Blessing Series. It follows the daughters of families she's used in two previous series. They are kind of a grown up version of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Books! I love them!

Oh, I forgot to mention: Micne and the well by Gin Phillips is really good. Takes place in an Alabama mining town during the depression. Written in a lot of different voices of the family members.

Hey girls...I have an idea about exchanging books.

I have a very large collection of books that I have read and would like to share, but is there a way we could do this so that when you finish a book mail it media mail to someone who is interested in reading that book and they in turn would media mail it to someone else? Could we do that? Or even mail the book back to the original owner when everyone is done with it??

Let me know if anyone has an idea about how to go about this or if you think it might work...

Michelle...I found another book by Sandra Dallas called The Diary of Mattie Spencer, it's paperback but in pretty good condition!

I just finished The Egg and I. I loved that book. Now I'm reading Hangman's Root, China Bayles mystery by Susan Wittig Albert and I'm about to start The Five Thousand Year Leap.

It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

Don't yall love the China Bayle's books? She writes about one of my favorite areas here in texas...the hill country and of course I love reading about all the herbs! I would give my eye teeth for a shop(and stone building!)like hers. Currently I am reading The Poet by Michael Connelly.

I too was reading Hobby Farm and Hobby Farm Home and MJ's magazine but for books I've been reading Book #2 of the Anne of Green Gables series...Anne of Avonlea. I usually read one fiction and one non-fiction or more plus the magazines. I am reading Jerry Baker's Gardening Wisdom form his Grandmother....VERY good and oldtime gardening methods not using any chemicals! Great book!
Julie....I LOVED The Thriteenth Tale! It is weird and strange like no other book I had ever read YET....I could not put it down! She is a great writer! And I will probably read more if she writes any more...that was her first book and it skyrocketed!
I've read Susan Wittig Albert's books on fictional accounts of Beatrix Potter but not China Bayles....I'll have to try those! And what is the EGG book? Who wrote it and what is it about?
Also, I am reading book #5 of The Mitford books and discovered another book series similar to the Mitford books and they are the Lumpy or Lumby Tales? by Gail Fraser...I haven't read them yet but plan on it!

I'm reading Little Heathens: Hard times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression by Mildred Armstrong Kalish.

This lady grew up in Benton Co Iowa where my family has been since way back.. She lived in the house that my cousin now lives in. She came by a few years ago when the book came out and wanted to see the house and all. It's neat to read about an area that I know from the 30's I'm finding out some local history from her, even tho I grew up there!

Hello,
I am the new librarian at our local, rural library (just open four hours per week).
This is great to read about what others are reading.
I, too, just took out a book by Rachel Peden - titled The Land,The People. I hink I will read her first one next. I am also reading "A Barn in New England - Making A Home on Three Acres" by Joseph Monninger.
Warm wishes,
Tonya

Elise,
I too loved Little Heathens.
My dear Mother in law who is now 93 grew up in Iowa and South Dakota. That book made me decide to get her oral history recored with all of her stories about growing up and put them into book form for her grands and great grands for Christmas. Once she is gone, all those stories wil be too if somone doesn't get them down on paper
