Jeremy and I found some beautiful bunnies at Tractor Supply the other day. I always wanted one as a kid but my mom couldn't stand "those kinds of animals". Well guess what I went back and got. His name is Max Blackfoot and he's between 2-3 months old. There's a pic of him on my blog. Stop by and see how cute he is.

Cute Bunny Melanie! I had one that looked very similar to him, not quite so many markings though. He was just supposed to be a TEMPORARY resident here, but he ended up staying with me for SIX YEARS! He died an "Old man" about a year ago this past December.

I also had English Angora rabbits several years ago. I LOOOOVED them, but boy were they a lot of work! All that fur needs CONSTANT care and they had to have a special diet to keep them from getting "Wool block." But they were VERY sweet and mellow and just the CUTEST things!

Unfortunately, I bought them from a breeder who had Snuffles in her herd. She assured me that my rabbits were fine and hadn't been exposed to it, but we lost two of them from that dread illness. It's carried genetically. We lost my doe on a day that was NOT supposed to get hot-- but it shot up to 105* one day while we were gone. It was devastating!

As much as I loved them, I'm not sure I will ever have rabbits again. They are so sensitive to a lot of things --- but I wish you and YOUR bunny a LOOOOOONG happy life together!!!! Congrats on your newest addition. ~~~ Hugs ~~~ Tracy

Melanie-Congratulations on your new bunny! Is he a mini rex? That's what he looks like in your blog photo. Mini Rex have the most luxurious thick fur.

I raised and showed rabbits for over 10 years and had netherland dwarfs, mini rex, and holland lops. I'm down to just 2 rabbits now,who are happily living out their retirement years here. Rabbits are wonderful pets, but if you keep them outdoors just remember that they don't do well in heat.

Tracy-Sorry to hear that you got a rabbit with snuffles. All rabbits carry the pasturella virus, some eventually actually get the disease while others do not. It can be triggered by genetics, stress, etc.

Diana- the gal at the store told me she believed he was a rex. To be honest, I havent' a clue. They had two kinds in the rabbit hutch. He was the smaller and softer version.

The gal also believed he was a he. Since I am completely new to rabbits can someone tell me how to find out for sure. I had thought about getting an outside home for him this year when it gets a bit warmer, but after what Tracy said I may rethink that. It doesn't just get hot here it gets very humid too.

Melanie-a rex has short but plush fur that's very dense. If it's a mini rex, it'll get to be around 4 lbs when full grown. If it's a standard rex it will probably be 8 lbs. As for sexing your rabbit, you can either wait a few months until he grows his 'bunny berries'(tee hee) or you can check while holding him on his back. Gently press right above the vent area. If something pops out it's a boy ;)

What a cute bunny! That would be so great to have a bunny rabbit! My friends used to have one when I was little.

We raised rabbits for pets when I was a kid. They are super smart, love to play with toys, and enjoy having lots of room to hop around in. Have fun with your new friend, he is adorable.
