Just checking in...and I'm overwhelmed by your kindness. This little girl is such a blessing, I can't even describe it in words...well, a little, but then I just start crying!!!

It's 77 here, so we are going to bundle up a bit and go out in the stroller down the hill and back. It's going to be cold for the next few days or so.

Kristin, that is sooooo cute about your Abby...I would love to see that photo!

Sandra, we're in Northern Kentucky, just 15 minutes south of Cincinnati, Ohio. I sure wish I had my clothesline up--but it's with the warm weather here, usually comes thunderstorms and tonight is no different! No wonder our german shepherd (who is crazy afraid of storms) has been in the bathroom all day long. It's sure hard to get things done around a 115 lb. dog!

Thank you, Country Lawyer...I am feeling fine--and the meds help :) But largely, I don't take anything--suffice it to say Mom's on a natural high! Violet thanks you for the kind welcome...can't wait till she can don an apron!

Janice...the dogs and cats are pretty excited about her. The first night home was a little hectic, because they were rather confused by her sounds and smells, but the next day, it was like she'd been here forever. The cats don't seem to care one way or the other (as long as they get fed on time, and get a little milk in the evening....we "buy" them with that!), and Rose (the above referenced german shep. licks her on the back of the head ever so gently when she cries, and sometimes just "because". Finn likes to lay with Violet and I when we are resting on the couch. He lays his head on her boppy with her! Elie, well, if she were wrapped in a Dorito bag, she'd be far more interesting. He really doesn't care one way or the other, and Daisy will actually "howl" with her when she's crying!

We had a lovely walk, and met some new neighbors. She loves the car seat and stroller, so I'm grateful for that--makes things a bit easier!!!!

I'm glad she likes that car seat! Burlington isn't far away...and David's a dandy baby sitter(I imagine Sterl wouldn't mind, either-LOL)! One of them will hold Violet and the other can hold a cell phone to call Wilma on(maybe David will remember prices from last time)! HAHA

Thank you all so very much...I'm so excited planning all that there is to do this Spring with Violet. Planting the garden, the first Burlington Antique Show (where Dave and Sterl can be babysitters!, and her first major outing, St. Patricks Day to hear her daddy sing with the Turkeys (a local band that reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel)...that will be very exciting for me, anyway :)

I never knew, girls. I never knew how having this child would affect my senses--that a news hound wouldn't be able to sit through the news anymore because of all the terrible things I am hearing. That a lead foot is suddenly afraid of drivers because of the car seat in my car, and goes the speed limit, if not below! That a work-a-holic would daydream about life at home...but I know that she will be well cared for by her daddy and a family friend when I go back after Easter, but I'm trying desperately to stop looking at the calendar.

So much to do! And yes, Kelly, I can't wait for Miss Wilma's gathering in Autumn. It will be a perfect time--she will be in a nice routine (although sleeping 4 hours at a time in the night is pretty darn good at 2 weeks old!) and by then, will be an experienced traveler!!! She'll also be big enough to carry in my sling--she's still underweight, but I'm hoping by next week or so she'll make the 8 lb. mark!!!

Jonni, I remember when mine were little and gardening with them. I'd take the playpen out to the garden when they were very little and do what I needed to do. And when they got bigger they'd be right in it with me. That was fun. And now my grandkids like to help. I got the little garden tools for them. I found a knee thing with an apron and gloves at Goodwill a few weeks ago for just a few dollars for Kansas. She has a little pot she put a few sunflower seeds in and she's got her little watering can. She's all set. I think I'll make her a little raised bed just for her. She likes to plant carrots and flowers. I have some extra wood and soil.

So have fun and carry that baby around in the garden with you. The smell will be something she'll not forget.

I hope to be going to Miss Wilma's in the fall, too. I can't wait to meet you and little Violet then.

What wonderful memories, Kris--and I love that name, Kansas! We inherited my nanny's farm in Kiowa when I was 6 years old, but my father didn't want to live in Kansas, and I've often wondered how different my life would be if he had chosen to stay there.

It would be an honour to meet you at Wilma's in the fall...I surely hope that CAN happen! So much to look forward to!!!

J- I know exactly how you feel! I couldn't watch the news or movies or TV shows with kids in them for about a year after Nora was born without SOBBING my eyes out. Seriously it makes you want to batten down the hatches sometimes!

It's crazy, isn't it, Alee? I would never have thought it about me. But, I can't seem to separate myself. Everytime I look at her, I just can't understand cruelty. I'm at least glad to know it isn't just me--that it seems motherhood changes most of us!

Wow! I've missed a LOT!!! Little Violet has had a bad tummy (gas and no poo makes for a GROUCHY Violet!!!) and a little eye infection that is clearing up with meds. But, we've had very little sleep (which I understand is par for the course) and we are STILL crazy about her! But, I've missed my farmgirl friends, so here I am, when I should be napping (because she finally is) typing away and catching up with you gals and your news.

Frannie, I will email you directly--you've been in my thoughts lately, especially this am when I saw that it would be in the 80's across Texas today! Little Violet's hair is getting prettier by the day...today it's got a little auburn tint to it. Don't know who that's from, but you just never know where the "mix" comes from, do you?

Miss Wilma, I hope you are feeling much better. I know how difficult it is to keep you down, so please take the time you need to heal.

Hey J-

Sorry I didn't reply sooner-we were in the middle of a move and things were CrAzY!

I think once you are a mom you look at violence and cruelty and suddenly are looking at it as how the mother of the victim is going to see those actions and it is heart breaking. Nora just turned 2 and I still hate it when there violence towards kids on TV. But the whole breaking down into tears does get better- especially after weaning. I think the hormones that help a mom feel nuturing for nursing really went over board on me! LOL I do NOT need to mother the whole world! LOL`
