I love this discussion board and I love hearing form everyone electronically, but I miss actual written letters. Would anyone else like to be pen pals? I propose that we post little blurbs about ourselves here and then if others have similar interests they can email you and ask for your snail mail address. Wouldn't it be nice to get something pleasant and personal (and not a bill!) in the mail?

My name is Kelly. I live in Providence, RI. In one short month I will be the big 4-O. I am single, no children. I have 2 cats, Frida and Diego (named after the Mexican artists). I am an Early Childhood Educator -- currently without a classroom. I substitute and am always looking for a classroom of my own. I just sent my application in to teach in New Orleans for the 2009-2010 school year, so I have to wait and see... a new home and job may be in my future!

My dream is to have a school of my own -- PreK and Kindergarten -- that is farm-based, organic, of course. The children would grow food and interact with animals, learn about caring for the earth and keeping it healthy. I just need to win Powerball....

I love to travel. I read a lot. I read a lot of series, like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton, and Elizabeth Peters. I also like historical fiction and biographies. Plus I have a magazine fetish -- I'm trying to cut down -- really!
I knit -- I used to run a charity knitting group called "The Warm Fuzzies" -- we would knit premie caps, lap blankets for veterans, mats for animals in shelters, etc. I'm a novice quilter; I took a few classes, but the math freaks me out a bit, so I stick to simple stuff. I'm a raging stashaholic, though... I'm trying the hexagon quilt in the latest MJF issue, we'll see! I like to paint with acrylics and I love to take photos. I like to scrapbook, when I have time, space and money to do it -- boy, it's an expensive hobby! I sell stuff on eBay, so that I have money to buy stuff on eBay. I collect vintage hankies, vintage jewelry (especially art deco), vintage perfume bottles and vanity items, McCoy and Bauer pottery, Fiestaware, and Delphite Cherry Blossom depression glass. (ya... I live on eBay...)

I have a house-sized lot behind my little 1932 bungalow where I grow mostly roses with some perennials. I grow vegetables and herbs in containers on my patio. The teeny tiny front yard is crammed with roses, too. I do everything organically. I collect rainwater and I compost -- yard waste outside, kitchen scraps inside with worms -- I have a special bin called a Worm Factory with hundreds of hungry worms.

So if you'd like to exchange letters just email me and we can get each other's address.
take care,
Kelly

A bit about me...
I grew up in Canada's largest province and now i live in Canada's smallest province. i live with my husband and our son on my husbands families dairy farm. The farm has been here for 200years and is an absolute dream! WE have 100 ares on the water and I do believe that this is heaven.
For those who love Anne of Green Gables...I live 1 hour away from her house and it is every bit a breathtaking as she describes it.
I am at home now with our baby, but my job outside of the house is taking care of Alzheimer patients and cognitively challenged adults. I love my job, but I sure am enjoying being home too.
in the warmer weather, I love to dig in the woods and un-earth old treasures or just walk along the beach. I also have just started scrapbooking as I love everything to do with it..the stickers, paper, stamps, pens and especially taking photos...
that is just a wee bit about me:)

my name is janie. I have been married to my best friend for almost 30 years (next may). We do not have any children but we have 2 inside cats, blanco and blackie (guess their coloring ?)both named by my dh and one inside dog named Sally. I work for a school district, full time, as the inventory specialist. I orderd all textbooks used by the district, most of the supplies used in the classrooms and keep up with any capital equipment needs (computers, printers, desk, etc) but I love to do art work. I crochet, quilt, tat, knit, embroidery, tole painting. My husband is unable to work so he is home most of the time with the "kids" and tries to take care of me. I am learning how to can and preserve food, am starting on my garden. I have started on the honeycomb quilt in MaryJanes last mag and so far have 7 flowers made ..and they all look good...I am so happy with that. We live in a 3 bedroom house in the middle of the city and I am trying to get parts of it remodeled --the kitchen is microscopic , I have one counter that is not as wide as a computer desk--no space to do any work..but it is very slow. Still, being on the forum has helped my outlook greatly and my husband has told me that I cannot ever stop being a farmgirl! :)
So that is a little about me....just email me if you want to write and we can exchange addresses too.

Melanie,

You have to post photos of your place!

Please?

I adored the Anne of Green Gables series on PBS and have the books. It sounds heavenly where you live... I am green with envy

Thanks Melanie.

Well Melody I am old too, 52 to be exact. I would love to, and will write, to any who write.
Our children are grown, youngest a senior in college. My husband and I have 5 grandchildren, 4 boys, 1 girl and number 5 boy due on March 4.
I work with EBD students, K-6 for the last 4 years, about 9 years I spent doing the same but grades 7-12. EBD is Emotional/Behavior Disorder.
I knit and crochet some and am hopeful of learning more. I can in the fall and actually love it. Reading is my passion, especially the Christian fiction.
We live on 120 acres of my husbands family farm as of a year ago. We currently live in our garage and will do so for a while as economy just too shaky and we want farm stuff going anyway. Set up pretty comfortable so won't complain, much :-)
I do love Anne of Green Gables!!
email me if you would like to write.
Rae

I can't wait to start corresponding, but first some stationary. Finally, I have an excuse to buy some stationary!!

I am relatively old (50 ) and active with many things; quilting, knitting, redwork, and most definately hand-crafted SOAP

I have lived in the country and now we are living in a quaint little lakeside city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We have a rather large home (100-year-old plus) Victorian that we are constantly upkeeping and restoring. We have a BIG back yard and I am planning on more raised beds for gardening since our soil is pretty sandy so close to the bay.

I am currently unemployed 9-months now, but am hopeful. I went back to school several years ago and found out that I love medical transcription and I happen to be very good at it, but still no luck in finding work

Wow, that means in april I'll be 40. Now I can actually look forward to that milestone birthday.
I'd love a penpal, also.
I live in a small town in Southeast Michigan.
My kids are grown and aout on their own (Most of the time)
I have been a widow for 9 years after 32 years of bliss with my high school sweetheart.
3 years ago my sister was uprooted by the hurricanes in Folrida and came to stay with me temporarily. We were having so much fun that she never left.
We go junking and traveling toether and have a great time.
I love to cook & bake, knit, quilt and am an avid reader.
Wish I had room for my own veg garden but currently have to make do with farmer's market and CSA.
Michele

Love that good ole vintage junk
