KJD...Tomato/basil sandwich on toast...fresh tomatoes..fresh basil..that's it?

Sounds great...I grow fresh basil in a pot down here in Arizona....Then once I get back to Washington State it will hopefully be warm enough to grow some more!

Hey, Michelle!

I read your post and had to laugh about you going out to milk Summer...I have an old mare named Summer and tried to picture me doing that! My Washington State summers are ALWAYS busy gardening, taking care of the critters, etc. so I know what that's all about. I guess I should enjoy my winters here in Arizona but to tell the truth I miss all the hub-hub of the farm life.

i am not a morning person. i will wake up anytime between 6 am 'til 8 am depending on whether i have had a bout of insomnia or not. also depends on hubby's schedule which fluctuates between working days and nights.
no matter when i get up, first thing - i make myself tea and try to grow a brain. once i am coherent(ish) i pray. i feed the bunny and dog and start A load of laundry and tend to the kitties. i fill the bird feeder and i feed my sourdough starter and then it is a bath and on to the day...

I have a daughter named Summer!!
I thought it was funny that Cheryl's sourdough starter has the same name as my beloved milk cow!

Well, I just changed mine two and a half weeks ago. I get up at 4:45, let Cody out, stoke the fire, get a cup of coffee (yep, I'm back on caffeine!) and browse the internet until 5:15. Then go to exercise class. Get back home at 6:15, shower, browse the internet til 7. Finish getting ready for work and out the door to be there by 8. That's M-F. On weekends, I have no set routine. It varies depending on what plans I've made or what's going on in town. But I still can't seem to sleep past 5 unless I managed to do something that totally wiped me out the day before.

My morning, generally, depends on what I see outside. The drapes are kept open, unless it's bone numbing cold, so I can get up when it gets light. I check the pastures to see if all my animals are on their feet, check the behind the barn lot to see if my Two Old Gentlemen Sheep are still alive and then head to the kitchen to make coffee. If I find things aren't okay, I head outdoors to tend to whatever problems awaits me.
At Thistle Cove Farm, it's all about the animals - their health, safety, welfare and their needs take precedence over human needs.

Up at five to six a.m., depending on the schedule for the day. To the kitchen for some coffee and devotional time, before cooking breakfast, then, wake the house, feed the mob,and get ready-set-go! The one thing I do every morning, no matter how rushed things may be is take a moment to give thanks for the blessings in my life. It helps me to focus on all of the positives in my life, and helps me to remember that through it all, if you are loved, you are blessed!

Smile-oh yea, you will still get wrinkles, but at least they will be wrinkles worth seeing!

Sandra, Thistle Cove Farm.....I always keep my drapes open, too and that's the easiest way for me to wake up. Whenever I spend the night in a motel with dark curtains I just seem to be more sleepy in the AM. Actually, I was told that there's a sort of an alarm clock where the light comes on and gradually gets lighter and lighter. Makes sense to me.

Well...my world will be upside down by next Monday with the birth of our daughter, but up until then, it goes like this:

6:45 am, alarm goes off, I hit snooze.
6:55 am, I crawl out of bed, leave sleeping husband.
patter directly to bathroom, say good morning to the dogs who are crowded in the hallway, and immediately turn on the shower.
7:15, done with shower, lotioning and makeup (seriously!), on to breakfast and let dogs out.
7:30, get dressed, let dogs in and get myself together to drive in for the morning commute.
8:00, leave the house
8:30 start my day at the office

8:30-5:40 or so, work, and then home or run errands!!

Carol, ranchetta - it's got to be the light, right? I'm sleepy when it gets dark and wide awake when it's light. If I nap during the day, I'm either exhausted or sick.
Today is back to March weather and by Thursday we're to get snow. Lord only knows what it will be by spring equinox.

6.30 the alarm goes, I try to hit snooze but KNOW I have to get up.
Shower and dress, cuddle Elvis and give him his breakfast.
Make myself a nice hot coffee, check email and about then it is time to get to work.
I leave at 7.30, arrive in the city at 8 AM. Walk very slowly to work, arrive at 8.30.
Have a hot chocolate (don't like their coffee) and smoke a cigarette.
At 9.00 AM I start to work

Well....I'm not a morning person at all. And I've had jobs where I had to be at work by 5(waitress) and by 7(OR nurse) and ready to work. I'm on auto-pilot until 10 but my mornings go something like this:

5:30 the alarm goes off. I hit snooze at least twice and get up about 5:50.
Let the dog out, have a cup of coffee, do laundry, usually fold. I'm back outside by 6:30 this time of year to water my pots and hanging baskets, feed and water the chickens and gather eggs. In the shower by 7. Feed the dog, make my lunch, fill or empty the dishwasher and out the door by 8 for my half hour drive to work. things go pretty smoothly unless DH is still here. He's usually up and gone anywhere between 3 and 4:30 most mornings. On the occasional morning when he's still here he goes out to take care of his cows, etc. but he's really in my way trying to get ready for work. I don't talk much and I really hate the phrase 'Good Morning.'

It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

I get up just as soon as my DH leaves for work @ 7:20am. I make the bed, brush my teeth, pour milk on my cereal that is already in a travel jar, start the wash then drive to gramma's to take care of her or drive to my dad's to help mom with him. Then I go pick up groceries, start for home, make supper then look in the mirror and say, Oh, dear I really need to look in the mirror at the start of my day instead of on the end of my day. Finish with supper, dishes, computer, shower and bed.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

my mornings vary at times... right now (while DH is on the day shift) i get up at about 5 with him. i make myself some coffee on the stove from my percolator, drink it with sweetened condensed milk or cream and sugar (i can't function without my coffee!) help DH make breakfast, whatever that consists of that day. we eat and chat as he makes his lunch and gets ready. i see him out the door at about 6:30. i feed and water the dog and cat and go outside to check the chickens food and water and see if there are any eggs at that time. from then on, my day is always different.... if i have laundry, i'll start that so i can get it out on the line in the morning. or i'll weed the garden before it gets too hot. or i'll do an excercise video. or water the trees and walk the dog around the yard as i do it. or clean the house. it's always different for me and i like it that way!

Ooh. Up around 5:30 to 6 am. Shower. Dress. Head to kitchen to start coffee for dh. Pour myself a glass of Cherry Koolaid or Diet Coke, take my meds. Head out to chicken house -- let 'em out and feed and water 'em. Come back in, feed dogs. Hear the kettle whistling, pour hot water into coffee pot. Knock on bathroom door and tell dh (who's in the shower) coffee will be ready shortly. Sit at kitchen table with remainder of Kool - Aid. Finally open my eyes and wake up, ready to write out my 'to do' list for the day!!!!!!! Tuesdays are the glitch, since I have to go to work in town. I'm usually up by 4:45 or 5, still do the shower thing, but instead of chickens, I head to the car. I don't know HOW I'm going to be able to adjust to milking, when and if I finally get my milk cow, as I'm still half asleep when I do this routine!
