Ok farmgirls, This is one of my very first quilt projects. I thought it was so cute, My first time pick fabrics for a quilt by myself. I finished it in 2004. It's been folded up ever since. I think overall there is too much green. The lemon and apple topiaries don't 'pop' enough. If someone in my family LOVED this quilt I would surely give it to them.but because I am the only farmgirl at heart , no one has gone crazy over it. So should I store it and hope someday I pull it out and love it, or eeekk try to sell it, but then how much should I ask, truly quilts and other handmade items,well for the hours that you put in to them. Then to let it go, would if it ended up at a thrift store or worse someone's garbage can. ok please give me your honest opinion.

Theresa, your quilt is darling! I wouldn't be so quick as to sell it or give it away. Store and bring it out on occations like picnics to use as decoration. It is obvious that you worked long and hard on it, enjoy it! Save it for passing on to your kids or grand kids. I think too it would make a great picnic blanket. Just some thoughts! Julia V.

I agree with Julia. You need to keep your quilt. It is darling and I would have it hanging on a wall.If you don't want it out all the time , bring it out at special times. Someday you will know who to pass it on to, a friend, child or family member, someone that is ill or maybe someone you don't even know.Don't be in a hurry.

Theresa! It is the cutest quilt!! I love it. Don't you get rid of it...I bet you would be so sorry if you did...just wait awhile. I think it would be so cute to bring out and use like the other's said..or to have a guest room or child's room done in farm style and that be on the bed....adorable!! And you can NEVER have too much green..it is my favorite color!!

| Farmgrlchick, if my first projects had come out half that good I would be so proud! It is darling. I think you should keep it, it is a great project done well, you learned something (about the "pop" of color contrast), and it will be warm and cheery! Don't be so hard on yourself!! |

Some things you could try on your topiaries - trapunto type stuffing would raise them up; some kind of outline quilting around them might make them 'pop' more. If you have one topiary block that is extra, or could make another or something similar, it would give you something to experiment on because that quilt is just too nice to ruin!

Ok Farmgirls, I think the vote was is unanimous. I will keep the quilt! I think that I have looked at this project too long. My chest is all puffed out with all your compliments. Thank you.
Mary , thank you for your suggestions, I will think about them a little bit.
I like the idea of hanging it in a childs room with a barn yard type theme. Very cute!

I totally agree with the farmgirls on this one. Jenny's right, you can never have to much green. What about using some floss and stitches to embelish the leaves on your topiaries to make them pop more? Maybe even silk ribbon embroidery would give it some more texture. Anyway, all quilts are good lessons. Someday you can show everyone a retrospective of quilts. 
Good work and don't obsess so much!

Theresa, I am a quilter.... and yours is an amazing first quilt. You will without-a-doubt regret ever giving this away. It's great! You'll be able to look back at this some day after making a few more quilts and have perspective about where you came from and where you're going. Besides, if--like me-- you give your first quilt to someone you know, you'll always have to see it in their house and feel like you need to make them a better one. LOL My mother has mine and has no idea how much I wish I could put it into a closet. It was NOT as good as yours.

Too green? Never! The animals are just grazing in a very lush meadow!! What a terrific job for your first quilt- do hang onto it! That is something that should be treasured.

Teresa - I, too, am a quilter. KEEP YOUR QUILT!!!! It will never be the treasure to anyone else that it is to you, and besides, it is gorgeous, interesting and unique. Love it and keep it out where you can enjoy it! Most of my family is not interested in hand-made things, either, except for my daughter (thank God) and so I make things for me and her, and we love them together.

I agree, keep the quilt. I have often worked on sewing and other projects and when done, have 'fallen out of love' with them. Put the quilt away for a while.
By the way, it is a VERY good first quilt! Your colors look fine to me!

I would love to see the quilt. . . am I missing it on the page somewhere?
Even without seeing it, I would say, never ever ever just give it away if it pulls a your heartstrings. My first quilt is SO unpretty and I'm pretty sure that my husband only likes it because he's being careful of my feelings but I kept it. :)

Please don't do anything to the quilt except treasure it. I can't believe that is your first try. That is amazing. My first tries at quilting are block squares tacked on the corners. I'd never dream of piecing a quilt like that, as a matter of fact, I've pretty much talked myself into thinking that block squares are the only kind of quilts to make.
Someday one of your children or grandchildren will think all the world of it and want it for their very own so they can have you with them at all times. Keep up the great work. I personally love it.

Oh my goodness you farmgirls are so wonderful!!!!SInce this quilt I have made about 10 more quilt projects from wall hangings to A BIG Star quilt. I love fabric, I am not a very good seemstress AND if it wasn't for my mentor , Angela, I could of never done the projects I have done. She has helped so much. ANd my darling hubby for m\buying me an awsome sewing machine. THe right tools for the job makes a huge difference. One of these days I will have my very own Quilt show on my blog. You all can grade them and tell me which wins "first place".

Hi Theresa, I'm new to this Farmgirl group, but I am a quilter. I'm with everyone on this one! You did a beautiful job, and you must have loved all the fabric at one time! Keep it, love it, and one day - share it with someone. Your hands made it! I think it is darling! Your family will love it, and think of you always when they see it! Farmchick,
Your first quilt is wonderful. (In fact it looks familiar, like a American Jane pattern? ) which have lots of animals & french fabrics in them.) Also you were so brave to attempt applique on your first one. You should have seen my first quilt - UGH! I kept it anyway & take it out for a look every so often. If you don't want it hanging on a wall or chair, put it on a quilt rack.
I don't think there is too much green. It reminds me of grass.
Keep up the quilting!

Yes Sandy B, it is an American Jane pattern. I have two American Jane patterns. They have that French Country look. I LOVE applique. Of course I don't do it by hand (shame) I use the machine. But it is my all time favorite way to make a quilt. In fact in a quilt is peiced blocks, (stars, hearts ect)I try to figure out a way to applique instead. Thank you for your kind words.
