Does anyone know of a good book that I can purchase or even a website would work, where I can obtain info on the collection of seeds? I want to start a seed collection but on some plants (ok, many plants) I havent the slightest idea where the seeds are or how to obtain them.

One book that's recommended by MaryJane is "Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable Gardens" by Suzanne Ashworth. I haven't read it - yet - but will shortly because it just came in the mail today with my Seed Savers Exchange order. (Woo hoo!) A couple of websites to try would be the Seed Savers Exchange - www.seedsavers.org - and Baker Creek - www.rareseeds.com . I haven't checked to see if they have specific information on the sites about it but both have forums so you'd get a lot of good information from other seed savers.
Of course you can always check in with the mavens on the Danger of Extinction thread http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=23 and/or in their henhouse http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/HenHouseSnitz/default.asp?CAT_ID=51 . Just about every level of experience is found there (personally, I'm a beginner). In the henhouse, you'll also find the chat with Lynn Coulter, author of "Gardening with Heirloom Seeds", in the Book Discussion thread. At the end she gives recommendations of some of her favorite books ("Seed to Seed" is one).
I'm sure you'll get more posts with a lot more information than I've given you but it will get you started. Have fun!

Yup, Seed to Seed by Suzanne Ashworth is pretty much the go-to book. It's hard for me to read though, and there's not any pretty color pictures if I remember right. There's a few other books out there I've been thinking of getting my hands on, but haven't gotten around to it yet (I'm the local queen of ILL at our library it seems).
The easy-to-me ones are beans, peas, tomatoes, marigolds. Will be moving on to melons and other squash and so on this year. It'll be interesting.
