I found a most interesting article in Sunday's paper about a grower who is propogating and harvesting seeds naturally. It's an interesting and lengthy article, but I learned alot from it, and most of all am inspired. Saving seeds was such a natural thing for our grandmothers and beyond. I hope this practice makes a strong come back soon, for our sake and our children's childrens sake. Do any of you have or use heirloom seeds from one season to the next?

I watch Rebecca's Garden on DIY, and she recently had a show which discussed saving tomato seeds. I'm going to try it this year. Speaking of heirloom seeds, next year I'm going to try and grow red corn.

Clare,
Thanks for the link to the article. I read the article and then went to their website. Great information. Seed saving and heirloom seeds is an interest of mine. I looked at the pictures of the calendulas on their website. Who knew I've been doing research right out in my front flower bed???LOL. Another website of interest is heirloomseeds.com

Thanks for the link. I haven't quite gotten to Sunday's paper yet. I think I am going to try saving some tomato seeds this year. I got some heirlooms at the Seattle Tilth plant sale last month.

Some of us farmgirls had the best "chat" with Lynn Coulter author of gardening with heirloom seeds. It was very informative. She told us that growing heirloom Tomotoes was the hardest so dont get discouraged if the tomatoes dont do well. Lynn's webiste is www.lynncoulter.com

On the small garden issues, check out www.squarefootgardening.com I think we all have gardening on the brain.

I am in the process of building a square foot garden, and getting ready to start some seeds too. Can't wait. Gardening on the brain!!!

Has anybody else done the square foot gardening method?

Congratulations, Cheryl! I'm still waiting on my herb and flower order from SSE but hubby has some seeds started in the basement already from the veggie ordered that came last week. I got mixed bachelor buttons from SSE and will be getting Black Boy bachelor buttons from Baker Creek. And I love it when anyone throws in a free packet of seeds - it's like Christmas!

God bless -
