My dh is the director of an animal shelter in Indiana. He just received this email from someone he trusts. I'm posting it in case any one near or in KY would be interested in one of these horses.

PLEASE FORWARD IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE!!! THANKS

forward - Free Arabian horses in KY, Arabian Horses in Kentucky FREE, ____________ _________ _________ ______, For medical reasons, my husband and I are dispersing our herd immediately. , We are giving away FREE 12 purebred Arabians. They MUST be moved before the, end of January or I'll have to send them to a stockyard. We will have no, choice., Please email me privately for extended pedigrees. Time is of the essence. No, comments, please, about the stockyard. After 35 years of creating a, wonderful gene pool and beautiful, athletic horses, my first priority now has to be, my husband who was just diagnosed with an aggressive terminal illness. The, last few months we expect to have together will have to take priority over the, horses and we hope to find them good homes in the next two weeks. It is our, hope that anyone reading them will spend their energy helping find placements, rather than being critical of the alternative we may be forced to take., I have the pedigrees in .jpeg format, or anyone can look them up in the, DataSource as well. None are broken to ride, though a couple have had some, professional halter training. They are all quality breeding stock and some would, make phenomenal show horses., All the horses are located on my farm in central KY. They are all free to, approved homes. I'll try to have all their pedigrees on my Web page shortly at, _www.dunaventarabia ns.com_ (http://www.dunavent arabians. com/) . I cannot pay, for Coggins and health papers on any of them, or pay for shipping them for, people. We have enough expenses with feeding them for the rest of the month and, paying for medical expenses for my husband's illness. I have already taken, extended medical leave from both my jobs., At this point I guess it will be "first come, first served" to get them, moved. You will see G Silk Boy figures prominantly in the pedigrees. He was a US, and Canadian Top Ten in performance and the last son at stud in the U.S. of, the phenomenal US and Canadian Top Ten *Muscat daughter Amber Silk. G Silk Boy, was sired by *Menes and was 75% Russian., Here's the list:, Mares & Fillies:, PF Mirada, AHR#460022, 1989 mare (*Mikado/RMS Wind Song, by Sahara Dancer), last registered foal by US National Champion Park Horse *Mikado, very, athletic, out of Gazon granddaughter. I went to their website and it says they no longer have any horses on offer for free.

Thanks, Alee. My dh just got that this morning. I'm sure glad they found homes for them all. That's very sad.

Yes it is very sad- especially since it looks like they had some fantastic horses. I know a family in Idaho that might have been interested.

When things start getting tough, Horses are usually the first "Luxury item" to go. It's a shame that those people worked for so many years to build their herd, only to have to GIVE it away! Hopefully they all went to good, loving homes with people who could actually afford to care for them properly.

We see horses in our area being offered for trade, or ridiculously LOW prices, all the time now -- and some of them are just SPECTACULAR! Even the Rescues are waiving their adoption fees hoping to find the horses good homes. No one can afford to feed them right now, and, sadly, it looks like they won't be able to anytime soon. It's really just too bad. Hopefully this recession won't last as long as the "Experts" predict it will.....

Welp, I'm glad they hopefully have found good homes however, why weren't they trained in some respect?? I know this sounds snarky but just in case someone else reads this but it sounds odd to me that they spent years building this herd and no training or handling. There are so many free horses out there right now too even with handling. So I hope they did find good homes. I kind of have my suspicions tho...

Ahhh... seems I'm not the ONLY one a bit suspicious of that ad.

I am a PASSIONATE lover of this breed and have had a few of them myself over the years. I have also known people who were seriously into "the Business" -- and what a frighteningly EXPENSIVE business it is!!! They were "partners" in the ownership of a very famous young horse and it took FOUR of them just to help pay his expenses!

Most-- if not ALL -- "Papered" Arabs can trace their lines to some VERY FAMOUS ancestors. Both of my horses had EXTREMELY impressive pedigrees-- but few of the breed (mine included-- though my Mare could possibly have produced a *Star* or two had I ever bred her) are so remarkable that they are worth the expense of showing. Most horses would never make the cut anyway.

This breed is like the Thoroughbreds (or even Greyhounds!)-- MANY are bred, even champion to champion-- but FEW ever make it into the history books. My guess is, these were just "Horses." Nothing special. If they were actually WORTH anything at all, the people would not have had to GIVE them away-- and they certianly WOULDN'T have if selling them would have helped pay medical bills! Someone with money who could afford them would have been the first one knocking on their door had they advertised them For Sale, ESPECIALLY at "rock bottom prices." Sounds like 'Breeding' was more a Hobby for them than a successful venture-- but still, it's obvious they had a *Dream* or they would not have done it for so long. It's still sad that they had to resort to GIVING them away.
