I just finished reading the first book in the "Twilight" Series. I feel like I have been having an affair with the vampire in the story. :o} I just could not put it down. This is truly not my type of novel, but oh, my gosh :o+ ......it is the best.

I'm so glad i'm not the only adult reading them. I am almost finished the second one. I started reading them just to see what the girls in my youth group were reading...but i am really enjoying them. I find now that i am nursing my new son i have all this time strapped to a chair to read. I am loving it and i can read out loud to him too...perhaps not about vampires, but hey. In 6 weeks i have gone through 3 3/4 books...i'll likely finish "New Moon" tomorrow.

I just finished reading the whole series in a week...I just couldn't put it down! My guilty pleasure tv show is Gossip Girl and there is a character on that show that I think would make a perfect Edward and as I was reading I kept seeing his face...lol Now I can understand a little more why they kept talking about girls going crazy for Edward when the movie was coming out, she really wrote him well!

I'm reading New Moon now and I stayed up til 1 pm last night because I can't seem to put it down. This is getting tough though. I can't go much longer on 5 hours of sleep. *L*

I never thought i'd like a book about vampires either. I read the first one to see what it was like since a girl in our youth group recommended it. I wanted to make sure it was ok to read. lol I read them all in a week! LOL Who know something like that could be so entertaining. She's an excellent writer. You should have seen hubby's face when i asked him to take me to see a movie about vampires. ;)

I'm almost done with Eclipse, the third book. I can't read as much as I want to due to college classes. What was I thinking, starting to read this while taking classes. All I do is read. :} Anne, I haven't seen the movie yet. I want to read the books first. By then, I'll probably have to wait until it comes out on vidio.

I am pretty much in love with all of them! You can also read an excerpt from the book called Midnight Sun. It is basically Twilight told from Edward's perspective. Just type in Midnight Sun in your google search engine and it should take you to her official website.

Haha, I loved the series! Our fellow sister and my best friend Laura Marie turned me onto them and I sped through them before she had a chance to finish the first! I guess that's what happens when you don't have a job! Lots of time for reading(oh I love to read!) but well, not much money(boo hoo).
Has anyone read or heard of the Sookie Stackhouse series? I just finished the first book.

Okay, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, honestly. I happen to be a middle school English teacher, and therefore have read a lot of YA literature, including the Twilight series. While I can see why the books would appeal to a young girl, I don't get the fanatical reaction (of adults) to them (I'm not at all implying anyone here is like that...but it's what I've seen elsewhere). To start, they're certainly not particularly well-written (show, don't tell, Ms. Meyer - the first rule of good writing!), but beyond that, I have a real problem with some of the character portrayals; Edward, in any other world, would be considered a stalker, bordering on emotionally abusive, Bella is a chronic whiner, and don't even get me started on the whole imprinting thing. I don't care how anyone tries to spin that, it's just creepy and all kinds of wrong. Please help me understand?

For me the appeal is a nice trip away from the reality of the following:
* holding a job
* taking care of a husband
* dealing with a teenager and a daughter in college
* attending evening classes to get my degree
* the fact that the economy could force me out of my job
* animals to take care of
* In-laws that are fighting all the time
* My dying parents

I just don't want to have to take everything so seriously. I want to retreat into fantasy, even though I am a relatively educated person who should probably be spending my time reading "proper" literature. The fact of the matter is.....I don't want to and I don't have to, so I ain't goin'.

I get ya laluna. There was something addictive in these books but I have to agree with you. Ms. Meyer is not the greatest of writers-she seemed to fall in love with a word and use it over and over again. I was happy with the end of the series as I felt it did redeem some of the things that ticked me off about the series. e.g. Edward being very stalker like. I think it really appealed to my teen self that never really did get what it wanted. Honestly I can see a bit of both sides of liking and not liking thses books. :)

i'm with you girls!! i am a middle school librarian, and it's so hard to be obsessed with the same books as 12 and 13 year old girls!! ;0) i did fight it really, but then i just gave into the edward thing sigh......if you loved twilight please try the books by L.J. Smith. i have to agree, stephanie meyer is not the best author, and bella got on my nerves, can't imagine farmgirls acting all whiney and such can you ;0) i also think stephanie meyer took some ideas from the Nightworld series by L.J. Smith, they were written in the 1980's and are just recently being reissued. the students are eating them up just as much as the twilight series! i have to admit i'm addicted to these also, when i was stirring dinner last night with one hand and had the book in the other i knew i was in trouble!! let me know if you read them what you think!!

We rented the Twilight movie on Sunday. I wasn't sure if I would like it or not, but it was so good. I can't wait to save up enough money to buy the books now. I was like that with the Harry Potter series too. Several of my co-workers are also reading them, even my doctor said how good they are. Well off to start a "Twilight Book Fund" :)

Take care, Melissa.

My daughter LOVES these books.... we were even at Walmart at midnight when the movie came out to buy! I fell in love with the movie! There is something very addicting about having a man (a great looking, strong and emotional one at that!) needing you so despertely that makes you WANT to be Bella! The movie brought the location, atmosphere and the feelings to life. So, two nights ago I started reading the book. I was SO disappointed! It was written so simple.... it just didn't bring the story to life the way the movie did! So, desperate for a book I picked up my daughter's Harry Potter (I love those movies too!) and it is awesome. It expands on the story past what the movie did. Okay... there is no hot vampire man... but the story is great! I will just have to wait for the next Twilight movie to get my fix! But, SUPER happy to hear about that other series reissued... my daughter said she is on a book strike since finishing the Twilight series... maybe she will try those!

Kristi's comment made me interested to see what your opinions are about watching a movie before you read the book. Kristi expressed that she was disappointed in the books after seeing the movie. I was disappointed in the movie because I read the books first. I felt the same way about the Harry Potter movies and books.

What is your opinion? Does it affect you positively or negatively to watch the movie before reading the books? This can be any movie and book.

You know... when you read a book you picture the characters, places, etc. a certain way. A movie never captures your own imagination!

I haven't read them..I am sure I will. I am a grown woman and loved the Potter series.
Valerie, I love love love Sookie! It is very dark but I think very well written. Lynsay Sands also has a series out that is very good - the Argeneau Family. I also love MaryJanice Davidson for laugh out loud humor. I also read Laurell K Hamilton - she is way dark though.
Never read a vampire book in my life till last year when I picked up one by mistake. Now I read those above and love them. Guess I will try these next!
