I just re-read Gone Away Lake and I realized that much of my attraction to farmgirl self-sufficiency may have started here. She also wrote The Saturday's, The Four-Story Mistake, and a couple others that I have forgotten the names of...really good books and worth re-reading - I like to read young adult books, many have really good messages

Just saw this post - YES, I have always loved Elizabeth Enright! I read her constantly growing up and have always read them to my boys and they love her too. I have a thick compilation hardback I found at an antiques shop years ago - the very same I read over and over in 6-8 grade years ago. It's The Melendy Family, and contains The Saturdays, The Four Story Mistake and And Then There Were Five. The Gone away books are good, too, but my favorites are the Melendys. Glad to see them mentioned here - highly recommend to all!

Hey KJD - I loved the Melendy's as a kid. I wanted to be an actress and my stage name was going to be Mona Melendy. I remember one of my friend's dads teasing me for that....

I loved Gone Away Lake and its sequel Return to Gone Away. The Melendy books have another one after The Saturdays, The Four Story Mistake, Then there Were Five. It is called A Spiderweb for Two. And of course there is her wonderful stand alone book Thimble Summer. Happy Reading, Sara

Just saw this thread, the Melendy kids were my "best friends" so to speak growing up. So here I am 44 years old and I just recently re read the series, I love them just as much today.

This rings a bell, faintly. I'll have to see what they have at the local library. I too love many young adult books.
