Help! I'm going to a conference tomorrow night, dress is "dressy casual". . .I'm a jeans/sweater person. I don't even know what dressy casual means. Quick advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |

I would assume dress slacks or a skirt with a nice blouse and cardigan or blazer. The cardigan or blazer because you never know if it's going to be cold in the conference room or too warm; in which case you can take it off.

I would say dockers style pants, and a nice blazer No jeans or tennis shoes.
Cant go wrong with tan dockers, white shirt and a black blazer.

Hard to say without seeing it. I never wear a blazer either, but I have one basic one in black just in case. They don't go out of style.
Is the sweater a cardigan style? what is the white shirt like?

Don't panic about the "blazer"...I'm sure you'll be fine in anything that is not jeans/tennies. Just be yourself. Although I'm really familiar with that feeling of having to go out and get something new for an event. A relative had a black tie wedding....off to the store for suits for the boys. A suit for my 15 year old was 200$ and that was on sale. |

This is the new term for business casual, that got watered down into jeans/khakis and polo shirts with embroidered company logos...
I would suggest a nice pair of trousers, and a sweater set, or like another poster mentioned, cardigan--solid colors preferable. I work as a paralegal and we have a lot of these gatherings. Also, some days it's just too darn cold to wear a skirt, so I opt for this. Black pants are ALWAYS good, and you can match anything with them. A pair of heeled boots are good as well--you can also wear those with jeans :). You'll find what you need at the thrift for sure. |

First, I hate how things are defined now. I drives me nuts. Business casual, dressy casual, work appropriate...it can drive you nuts.
I always have a nice fitting black suit that I can break up with colorful tops and have the option of wearing the jacket or not. Black flats keep me dressy but comfortable.

I agree, comfort is key. Sooooo, what did you end up wearing?
