Does anyone know of one? I put those drops (by Adams) on my kitten's neck a couple of days ago, and she's been super itchy ever since. I had to take a warm wet rag and rub her skin where I applied it. I used to use Advantage on my other cats with no itchy side effects, but with this kitty and her sensitivities, I'd rather switch to a natural product. I had no idea she'd react like this!
Anyone use essential oils or anything similar? Thanks~

I have a cat that cannot use the over the counter or prescription stuff either. She is so sensitive to it that we have almost lost her a couple of times. I also have to watch what we clean with. Certain cleaners sends her into seizures. We, too, have been searching for a natural alternative to get rid of fleas.

One thing that I have found that seems to help some is pennyroyal. Supposedly if you sprinkle some in the cat's bedding and around your carpets, it will help keep away the fleas.

The downside of it is that it can induce miscarriage in both animals and people, so you have to be very careful with it.

I hope to find something else very soon and if I do I'll pass on anything that I find.

A friend of mine told me that she uses Brewer's yeast to help keep fleas off of her barn cats. I think she sprinkles it on their food. I'll check with her and post back.

Best farm wishes

Garlic is OK for dogs, but don't use it for cats. Garlic and onions are not good for cats. http://blogs.dogster.com/vet_blog_information_advice/is-garlic-good-for-cats/

I was using garlic with my cat until my vet told me about how it can affect them. I immediately stopped using it.

Be careful about onions for dogs as well. It can make them very ill.

I found some 'natural' flea repellant, but it doesn't kill flea larva, eggs or ticks. Flea repellant is no good unless you can kill the eggs too, because they'll just keep hatching every two weeks!
Stuff like advantage, Adams', etc...they sterilize the eggs so when they do hatch, they can't reproduce and the whole flea population on the pet and in the home area die off. Inside only cats can eventually stop needing flea meds, but outside cats need it monthly.

So, I ended up using chemicals, Adams brand, and as I thought, it made kitty itchy at the application site. So next month, I'll use only 1/2 a tube.

Kim,

My older cat is so allergic to any of the prescription and over the counter topical flea products, that we cannot use them. When we do break down and use them on the younger cat, we have to shut him up in a room all by himself until the stuff dries. :(

Not too long ago, the vet gave us a pill that we have found Misti Luna can actually tolerate. It's called Capstar Flea Control. We are supposed to give it to her once a day every other day for seven days at the same time that we apply a topical flea control (like Frontline) to Boots. We have found that if we give her one pill at the same time as the flea control for Boots, it takes care of our flea problem for the month.

I would love to find something natural that both cats can use though.

I had a cat with sensitive skin that had little sores all over from a flea allergy. We gave her Brewer's Yeast tablets. She loved them. We had to lock up the bottle. We were keeping it in a kitchen cabinet. We caught her opening the cabinet door and stealing the bottle. She would roll it around until she got the lid off. If we let her she would have woofed down the whole bottle. These cleared up her skin and no more fleas. The nice thing was we didn't have to fight her to get her to take something. I now get it in powder form and you sprinkle it over their feed. I hope this helps. Lock up that brewer's yeast though.

Toodles,
Becky

I just remembered that I think someone posted on here about using vinegar in their drinking water and how well it worked, at least for dogs, let me find that thread and I will post it here...

Ok, here it is, but it does reference dogs...wonder if would work for cats?

"MJ taught me how to keep fleas off my dog. Add vinegar to the drinking water (start with 1 tsp per quart then work your way up to 1 Tbsp). I read it the other night but I read so many things I can't remember whether it was in her book or her magazines."
