Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to remove glued down carpet padding? I have a bedroom in the basement that has the carpet padding glued to the concrete floor- I am trying to get it removed to put down wood laminate flooring. Any hints are greatly appreciated!

How about a heat gun to soften the glue and a scrapper. Lots of work but anything else I can think about is to toxic. Did you call a carpet place to see what they might do.

I'll call a carpet place right now- and I will try the heat gun and scrapper.
Thanks for your help!

I would think a heat gun would cause the plastic in the padding to melt. Ours was glued down and I used a garden hoe, a paint scrapper and a lot of effort to scrape it up when we switched to wood laminate.

That's what the carpet store suggested- a metal scrapper or a garden hoe. Maybe using the hoe will help with my spring fever! :o)

Wow, that sounds like a lot of bent-over, achy back kind of work. But anything for wood floors is worth the effort.

I should host a pad removing party- with food, drinks and prizes for who can remove the most! what an idea- I wonder how many friends would come to help? I better just start the work myself I want my new floors in by June! (daughters graduation) Lots of projects to get done- so little time.

Ha! Lori, that reminds me of the time the stepdad of my BF from elementary school asked us to a dandelion party.. Only he didn't have any snacks or prizes. No wonder Gayle's mom divorced him..

Well- this has been a HUGE job and is taking longer than I want it to. So it time to organize a ripping up the carpet padding party! Serving food, drinks and prizes! Maybe then I will get it done by my daughters grad day party! Wish me luck! Any volunteers?
