Ohhh Lisa!!! How is it going??? WE ARE DOING IT!!! I'm so excited for us!

{{{Many Supportive Hugs}}} ~Jamie

Oh hey...When I feel a big urge coming on, I make a list of three chores that I MUST DO. I complete them and one by one mark them off the list. By the end of the list, the urge has usually pasted.

Doing fine, Jamie. Yesterday wasn't bad at all. Of course, I was busy all day until I got home from work. I had to deal with the empty nest thing again and felt a little down. I just didn't feel like doing any sewing or anything and ended up cuddling on the couch with the dog to watch a movie (he's really warm!). But, I didn't really feel the urge to light up at all yesterday.

I'm going through some serious insomnia lately, too. I went to bed at 10:30 and was up at 3:30. So, I've already been up for 2 1/2 hours and no urge to smoke!

DD is safe and sound back at college. She called me at midnight last night to tell me they had just arrived and were very tired. One less worry...

Are your cravings subsiding? Is it getting easier for you?

Hey Lisa! DAY #3 right?!?!

Yes, most days my cravings are few. Some days though [depending on what's going on], I have a few more than I'd like....but now, it's easier to put my mind somewhere else and the cravings pass quickly. Over all, it is getting easier for me. I'm really glad....this whole quiting [or turning over a new leaf] wasn't nearly as bad as I made it out to be in my mind. I'm so happy for you Lisa! :)

With determination,
Jamie

I just found this thread. I'm so happy for you, Lisa, and you, too, Jamie. Every day you don't smoke, it's sort of like investing in your health. Like putting money in a 'health savings bank'. I hope you both become 'health millionaires' in 2009! ;)

Lisa Marie, I just found this thread too. I'll pulling for you! I guess this is day 4 for you? I'm happy for you!

When I quit smoking I found that lollipops/suckers helped. It gave my hands something to do as I sat at my desk.

Well....I messed up today I totally stressed myself out when I found out my bank account got messed up and the two biggest checks I wrote bounced and I couldn't find my mistake and I was panicking. Then, the ex told me that I would have to put our other dog, Girlie Girl, down because he won't. I went to see her and she's in so much pain (bad hips), she can't walk at all anymore and she can't stop crying So, at the end of the day, on my way home, I stopped into the store and bought a pack and smoked one. Then, when I got home and finished crying, I had another. Even though I left her behind, I still love her. I soooo don't want to do the deed, but I can't stand for her to suffer like she is, either.

I got online with my bank account and found that my last auto deposit paycheck wasn't there. So, I called our payroll person to find out why. She said she issued me a physical check because the deposit wouldn't go through for some reason. My dumb-butt! I didn't even look at the check. I just assumed it was the stub we always get after payday and filed it away with the others. So, I'm not out an entire paycheck and panicking that I'll be behind on all my bills because I found the money. I just owe the bank $50 for the bad check fees.

Then, I called my friend, Terri, and blubbered all this stuff out and confessed to lighting up. She's so cool. She's going to take me and Girl down to the vet on Friday to put her down. I just can't bring myself to shoot her. We had to do that with a horse once and it was just awful. So, then, Terri told me I better throw that pack of smokes into the stove or she'd be coming over to do it for me! So, I did. Because I know her well enough to know she would do just that. And if she brought her dad for backup, I'd end up in a snowbank!

So, I'll be fine Only one real crisis now, instead of two. I'm supposed to be a big girl, I can handle this like one.

Lisa- That was a TOUGH day! *hugs* I am so so so sorry to hear that your dog is in so much pain. It would be so much easier if nature would take them gently in their sleep when their time came and before the pain becomes so bad. Putting my childhood dog and best friend has got to be one of the hardest things I ever did, but at the same time, I knew it was the right thing to do. *hugs*

Drink lots of water tonight! Your body is going to be a bit confused because of the ones you did smoke, but you are doing great! You would think the payroll lady would let you know if there was a change of plans! I am SOOO glad the money didn't get lost or stolen!! *hugs*

Oh Lisa...Many hugs from me too! Stressful situations are tough....and then when you're stopping the habit of smoking, IT MAKES THEM TOUGH AS NAILS X10!! I think you are really doing great though and hang in there, it gets easier [though sometimes it doesn't seem so].

Practice this perhaps... When ever the 'moment' arrives that seems a bit overwhelming without a smoke...Take a BIG deep breath in [close your eyes and REALLY concentrate on this as well]. Hold the breathe for about 5 to 10 seconds [just until you feel a little pressure in your head]. Then exhale slowly. Repeat if necessary. I am still having to do this at times during the day. And no joke, it really does help pass a stressful moment for me. It's almost like a quickie meditation moment. I hope it might work for you.

I agree with Alee, you should have been notified of the change of plans. But I am glad as well the issue was uncovered and the money was found. What a relief right..

I will be thinking of you and Girl. How sweet of your friend to come along with you on Friday. What a true friend. Loosing long time pets is real tough. Pets are preciously important creatures in our lives and nothing makes the passing seem easier except for the fact that they will no longer be in pain. I'm lighting a candle for Girl on Friday...God Bless her sweet heart..and yours too.

Warmly,
Jamie

P.s. We can do this.

Today is a new day and I'm back on the path to being smoke-free. Friday is going to be hard but, I'm going to try your suggestion, Jamie. I just have to keep telling myself that I won't be a slave to these things anymore.

Keep up the good work- you have more strength than you will ever know! When times get tough- pull up your boot straps and try a lifesaver- something in your mouth sometimes helps alot. Will be sending prayers your way for strength to stop smoking totally and for Friday and putting your dear friend down. Lean on us in tough times!

Thanks, girls. Today was a good day on the non-smoking front. I'm bolstering myself for the days to come. I figure if I spend the day with Terri on Friday, I can't wander off and buy another pack of smokes. She'd hog tie me if I tried. It'll be ok. Girlie Girl has lived a good long life for a pit. She turned 11 this month and her face is totally white now except for the eyebrows. It makes her look funny with the dark eyebrows!

Anyway, Jamie, how's it going with you? Still feeling good and craving less? OohRah! Right back at ya!

Alee, I don't have your number anymore. Even if I did, I don't have long distance right now. I have to conserve my money for the necessities until I get some debt paid off. One bill will be done in April, another in June and another in October and I am NOT straying from the plan! Then the only debt I'll have left is my student loan and Felicia's. Oh, well, and the house. But I don't really count that as debt (I know the banks do). Housing cost is a given in my book.

Oh, yeah, Laura, you remember the last time I tried to quit. That wasn't very pretty. But I'm taking Wellbutrin this time and it's helping a great deal. I haven't dropped the phone on any defendants so far (or their mothers either)!

Don't bother calling me tonight. I had to unplug the phone because the ex won't stop calling. I blocked his number so now he goes to pay phones to pester me. I think I'll keep it unplugged until I go to Boise on Friday and pick up a phone with caller id on it. If you get a chance call me at work tomorrow.

Lisa-*hugs* I am so glad you had a good smoke-free day! I hope to be able to do a loop sometime this spring- maybe right after school is out to come see a friend in Logan UT and so I was thinking- Idaho City isn't that far from Logan....and if I go to Idaho City- I might as well take the scenic route back and drive up to Spokane to see some other farmgirls!

Alee, that would be great! I'll give you the grand tour! No worries about where to stay. You can stay with me. Salt Lake is only 6 hours from here and Logan is a bit closer.

Thanks, Cheryl. This isn't as hard as it was without Wellbutrin. Hopefully, soon, I'll stop thinking about it all together!

Morning Lisa!!

I'm so glad you had a good smoke-free day yesterday. Way to go! You will have another today!! And those cravings will subside. They slowly get less and less everyday...I promise! I only think about it a few times a day...then if it gets really bad I do that deep breathing thing. It really helps me. I've just told myself "It is not even an option Jamie!!...so quit thinking about it!" And it truey isn't an option, I want to be the good example for Zach. And plus, I just can't afford it anymore. As of today...If I were still a smoker...I would have spent over $37 since the first of the year!!! Holy Cow!!! I can pay the WHOLE water bill and still have money left over with the money I have saved!

What's up with the ex Lisa?? Not to get to personal, but is he threatening in anyway?? I'm sorry to ask that but I read your post and it made me nervous and worried [hopefully unnecessarily]...

Hugs,
Jamie

Today will be a good one! I just know it. I've been up for 2 hours and I only thought I wanted one once so far. I did your deep breathing thing, Jamie and it really does help.

And Jamie, no problem with asking me anything. I'm an open book. Might as well be - I live in a town where everybody knows your business anyway! And many of the gals here know what's going on already. Technically, he's not my ex - yet. We're in the middle of the divorce and he's been flat out stalking me and it's getting pretty weird. I talked to our city marshall yesterday about it and unfortunately, Idaho code is very specific in the stalking laws and I can't PROVE malicious intent and no, he has not threatened me at this point. But his behavior is getting creepier and more unstable than it was when I left him and he's kind of freaking me out. No worries, though. I am watching my 6 and I have a lot of folks here watching out for me.

So, since I messed up the other day, do I have to start counting my smoke-free days all over again?
