I am looking for recipes to make "everyday" bread(or just basic bread for sandwiches). I also would like to be able to freeze it. Does anyone have a recipes to share?

I have a great bread recipe from a friend of mine, I'll look it up tomorrow or call her for the recipe if I can't find it around here and put it on here tomorrow or Friday (have to work on Thurs.)

Hey Erin, I stumbled onto the site awhile back. It may be some help to you. http://ayearinbread.earthandhearth.com
Also Mother Earth News had a good bread recipe in the last issue. You could look them up on line, too.
Good luck. Kris

Sheila, my hubby is diabetic and he eats my bread. I make whole wheat with the whole berry. I grind the berries and use honey, olive oil, eggs, milk, yeast and gluten. It's so good. It doesn't hurt him to eat this bread. I make rolls for him to take with him in his truck every week. And no preservatives, either.
I get on a big soap box about bread. Sorry. I know some people just can't have it. But there is good bread out there. It costs lots more, but so much worth the cost of your health to eat good bread. My bread is also a good cleaner outer, too! Lots of fiber in it.

I am diabetic type 2 and I eat bread. I just can't eat half the loaf in one sitting like I used to. (I love bread!)

Wasn't it the Amish or Quakers that said the darker the bread the better it is for you? Not all bread is a no no. Just the over processed and over preserved.

Erin, I'm still waiting for the recipe from my friend (she's alittle under the weather right now) so...I did some recipe searching through my grams old recipes/books and found acouple that sound yummy to try!
Whole Wheat Batter Bread 1 pkg. active dry yeast 1 1/4 c warm water 2 T honey or brown sugar 2 c flour 2 tsp salt 2 T Soft shortening 1 c whole wheat flour In a lg bowl dissolve yeast in water. Add honey, half of the flour, salt & shortening. Beat with mixer for 2 min. at med. speed. Blend in remaining flours with spoon. Cover & let rise in a warm place until doubled in size - about 30 min. Stir batter down & spread evenly in a greased 9x5x3 loaf pan. Let rise in a warm place until batter reaches 1/2" from the top of pan, about 40 min. Bake at 375 for 40-50 min. Brush top of loaf with butter & cool on rack before cutting.
This next one just sounded like fun to make! (I can picture my gram making this!!) Hobo Bread 1 pkg active dry yeast 1/8 tsp ginger 1 T sugar 1/2 c warm water 2 T sugar 1 (13oz) can evaporated milk 1 T salt 2 T oil 4 cups flour butter Grease well 2 (1 lb each) coffee cans & their plastic lids. Dissolve yeast, ginger & sugar in warm water. Let stand in warm place until bubbly (about 15 min) Stir in 2 T sugar, milk, salt, oil & flour. Dough should be heavy & too sticky to knead. Place dough in cans; cover with lids. Let stand in warm place until dough rises & lids pop off (1 1/2-2 hrs.) Preheat oven to 350. Bake, without lids, for 45 minutes. Crust will be very brown when done. Brush top well with butter immediately, Let cool about 10 min before removing from cans; cool on rack.

Perfect Whole Wheat Bread ~ Kristine Farley Grind mill full of hard white wheat, approximately 8 lbs.
Add to mixer bowl in this order: 6 cups warm water 2/3 cup honey 2/3 cup oil half of the flour 2 tablespoons dough enhancer, opt. 1/2 cup instant potato flakes 3 tablespoons yeast 2 tablespoons salt
Mix until blended. Add enough flour so the dough doesn’t stick to the sides of bowl. Knead on low for 10 minutes.
Place dough on oiled counter. Shape into loaves. Place in greased bread pans.
Place bread in oven at 170’ degrees for 15 minutes or until doubled in size. Or leave out on the counter to double.
Turn oven up to 350’. Bake for bread 30 minutes or until it sounds a little hollow. Take out of pans and place under cold water, briefly. Place on towel to cool. While still hot rub with a cube of butter across the top for a soft crust.
Options: -Add cooked cereal, nuts or seeds. -Add raisins & cinnamon. -Use dough to shape into dinner rolls -Roll out dough & cut with large mouth canning lid hamburger buns. -Use dough for cinnamon rolls. -Shape dough over an upside down, greased bowl, place on greased cookie sheet & bake for bread bowls. -Roll about 1/3 cup of dough out thin & fry for Navaho tacos. -Shape into pretzels, place on greased cookie sheet, spritz with water or brush with egg white & sprinkle with coarse salt or sesame seeds. -Use dough for pizza. I’m sure you can think of other uses.
Blessings, Kristine ~ Mother of Many, MRET & Wellness Coach
