I went once before and wished I hadn't taken the classes because all I wanted to do was shop after I walked through the vendors. Certainly, to wander and get into a free seminar, just a ticket at the door will do which is nice. I decided this year to take classes...I need some help on a few things like clothing construction fitting tips. Islander Systems has a half-day class for this on Weds although I'm sure it's a sales pitch for their system mainly. I hope it's worth it. I'm not in a shopping mode this year...more of a learning mode. How the tables have turned and it helps that my wallet is thin right now. Ha. Jami in WA

the islander sewing class is phenomenal. it revolutionized my sewing techniques. totally worth going to. I not only took the construction class last year, but the half day zipper class as well. incredible. it truly is possible using rosebud's techniques to put in all three kinds of zippers with no tape, no pins, no swearing! I think the best thing from the islander sewing class was the "go for it" attitude Janet encourages. Oh and her waistband and facing methods!
Jami, the islander class is a sewing construction techinique class, so don't expect pattern fitting tips. If that is what you are looking for, there is a not to miss seminar (#502) with Lorraine Henry "Swivel our seams pattern alterations". I took that class last year and it was eye opening. she walks you through how to take an existing pattern, the measurements of the person you are sewing for (yourself or another person) and how to accurately adjust the pattern using a simple "hinge" method at key points on the pattern. mind blowing and so many hand outs :)
Can you tell I love the Expo?!

Lizabeth, thanks for clarifying about the Islander class. I just looked back through my booklet from the expo and indeed you are right. However, I did sign up for a fitting class! I just got the 2 confused! Ha...no surprise there. I am taking Pati Palme's Fitting and Sewing and another class called Ingredients for the Diet Pants...think that's about fitting pants.
I am happy I'm taking the Islander class since you are raving about it. I feel like having a one-woman revolution in my sewing studio.

yep! I am all about woman revolutions :) Especially when it comes to sewing. We can change our families' lives with sewing... and most importantly I find sewing improves one's self. |

I think it's $10 at the gate.
I am disappointed I didn't get into the Wednesday class I wanted and I sent my registration in within 3 days of receiving it! Shoot. Oh well. Now I'm driving over and back home all on Thursday for the other classes I did get into. It will be a long day but that way I don't have to get a motel either.

Thanks for posting this Grace! I did not know about this! Every event sounds so good. I would love to go. Would you like to go together? What days were you thinking? Let me know and if you want to drive I can provide the overnight accommodations in Seattle.

I am trying to help my DH understand(hmmmmm) this is important for me, (TEEHEE), like I need more to do with sewing and fabric and all the rest that has to do with it.....haha! Don't know if I will be there, but, maybe all can get together for lunch or ? My MIL will be there, I'd like to see her also, she is going every day...says there are LOTS and LOTS of free things, classes and booths...She loves going, goes every time they have one.

Hey! I have a fun thing to share with y'all. I just attended the opening of my exhibit over in Chisholm, Minnesota. At one event, I met Mary Mulari, a local apron/sewing maven, whose name sounded very familiar. As we talked, I remembered where I'd seen her photo and all - on the sewing expo website!
For all y'all who may be going to the expo, even if you're not taking one of her classes, if you're able to, do make her acquaintance. She is absolutely lovely. Wish I didn't live so far away.
