Had to leave the water running to make sure the pipes didn't freeze. Farmer's Almanac said this was going to be a mild winter! So far we've had over 4' of snow and sub zero temps several days, now. Mild my butt!

Hey, Lisa - you can come join me down in the valley. All our snow is gone now and it has been cold and windy here in Caldwell. It's been a good day to sit and crochet a few neck scarfs and read through the seed catalogs and plan the green house and ... !

Mary, I think I'll take the subzero temps rather than the wind. No matter how cold it is up here, the wind down there makes it feel even colder. I was down that way on Saturday and I was surprised to see all your snow had melted. I've been sewing and going through my seed catalogs, too. I have several lists that I'll have to pare down to what I can afford!

It was zero at 8pm tonight. Now it's 5. Must have had some clouds move in.

Ah, Lisa, you better bring your snow shovel if you're coming today, we got snow last night and it is still snowing! I had about a couple inches to shovel this morning so I can get out and go to work later but it hasn't stopped snowing so I may have to shovel again! I'm glad I don't have to go to Boise today. OMG, I just looked out the window and it is snowing harder!! Guess I had better get going, it's going to take longer to get where I need to go.

Pssst... Actually, if I had my way, I would rather be up on the mountain with ya sistas than down in this valley I said I would never return to. But ya do what ya gotta when it is family <sigh>

Everyone take care if you have to get out in the bad weather today.

We have 68 inches and it is snowing like crazy now. We also burn wood for heat and have been having trouble with the power so I have gathered my books and flash light and knitting and sewing around the fire place and set in for a long winter.

I don't actually get down to the valley very often, Mary. About once a month or sometimes two months go by. I live here and I work here. Only need to go down on occasion for supplies that aren't available here or are way too spendy to buy here. One of these days (I have to get a car first) I'll come on down and visit. And if you ever come up this way (in better weather) you're welcome to come visit us any time. Maybe we could all get together for some event!

Sounds great, Lisa. Actually I have been known to make the trip for some of that great ice cream when things start to close in on me down here in this crazy rat race!

Which ice cream? Donna's Place or the Sarsparilla?

Hmmm, there's two? I don't remember a name. When you drive up from Boise, I take a left on the main street and it's on the left. It's close to the visitor center. There was a candle shop next door the last time I was there. They hand make their waffle cones. Now that I think about it, I didn't make it up there this last year - boy, am I overdue!!

Mary, that would be the Sarsparilla. Their ice cream is really good, but a bit on the spendy side. All the locals get their ice cream at Donna's which is right across the street from the Sarsparilla. But at Donna's Place the biggest cone I can eat is the child size because they really load it on!

Connie, I realize I'm griping about nothing compared to what you get! So, when everything is frozen over, where do you get your water from? Are you just melting snow for water?

I agree with you Lori. It was -18 when I got up this morning. I have been cold since November. This winter has been way too hard!

Ooh. -18 and I'll bet it's windy there, too, huh? That's one of the nice things about living here. Our town is in a nice protected spot in the mountains and they block the wind for the most part.

I've been watching the weather channel about all the cold as my family lives in IL. I can remember winters like that and it just makes you cold to the bone. Hope you all warm up above zero soon!

Frozen pipes here this morning...just in the kitchen though! Nothing like using water from your tea kettle to brush your teeth...We are expecting a heat wave next week of temperatures above 20-degrees. Where's my suntan lotion?

Woke up this morning to a balmy (LOL) -24 degrees... Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... We haven't had the amount of snow that you ladies have seen in ID, but we have had our fair share. We tied our annual average for snowfall the other day, and got 6" more yesterday. Still waiting to see if we'll beat 1979 for snowfall, the year we had a blizzard that dumped 24-30" (depending on where you lived) in 24 hours. That's a lot of snow for here.

In beautiful Delano MN this morning it was -29 when I drove by school at 7:56 this morning. Incidentally, school was canceled today, and will start two hours late tomorrow morning.

Hey we were talking about Emarrass yesterday too! I was at a conference and the facilitators were from MN. On my way to work my car said it was -13. As I got closer to civilization it got all the way up to -9. I left a 1/2 cup of hot coffee in my car to go into the venue yesterday...when I came out it was slush! And that was in the parking garage! Today all our schools are closed due to the wind chills being -20 to -30s. Locally a man froze to death after falling off his deck night before last and not being able to get back in the house. How sad. We are not used to these kinds of temps here in mid-MI. On my way in, there were several low lying areas where we actually had ice fog! I've never seen that in my 18 years on this side of the state!

Wow, I knew MN was cold, but aren't those Alaska-kind of temps? Dang! I hope employers don't really expect people to go out in that dangerously cold weather to go to work, do they?

StarMeadow, I've never seen or even heard of ice fog. I'm guessing it's a phenomenon near large bodies of water? Is it particles of ice hanging in the air? Or what exactly is it?
