Carolinagirl I'd love a copy. Being new I have missed a lot of great ideas and projects. I had several rag dolls growing up and have lovely memories of playing with them. Thanks Mary

Cool, ladies! Let me get it formatted and I'll try to send it to you by the end of the week. I appreciate Frannie's willingness to share her dollmaking and her allowing us to keep the directions in a written form. Honestly, I giggled so much while reading them, Frannie, that it would be well-worth it for you to compile the directions in your dialect (which is mine also! :) ) and vernacular and send it to a craft publisher. It's so much fun! |

I do have it together, y'all. I'm sorry- I've actually been making some dollies lately. I'm making raggedies (prim ones)and play dolls for my girls, and amassing an amazing amount of links, patterns and info as I go. I have the file in a MS Word doc, complete with pictures from Frannie. What I did was to compile all of her entries in the thread (from the beginning of the dollmaking to the end), editing out everyone else's so that we have Frannie's words in a stream.
If you'd like them as a doc, I can email them to you- it totalled 84 pages!
Let me know, either here or by email at uscwriter@hotmail.com |

Hi, Frannie, I just read through the whole Cabin Fever Dollie class thread and loved it! Loved all the pics and the pics of all the Dollies that were made. I am SO wanting to just make some Dollies...I did make one doll this summer, as an entry into the Dimensions in Dollmaking show that will be aprt of the San Diego Quilt Show, it will be Labor Day weekend. When I lived in San Diego, I was just getting involved in the IOLCC (Imitation of Life Construction Company) cloth doll club - was in for just about a year, and then I moved to Spokane. But I love making cloth dolls, even if I am a newbie and not very nimble fingered with the needle and thread. The doll I made for the show is an Ellise Peeples pattern, "Spirit Sisters" - and it was fun making her, and learning how I would do it different next time. Anyhow, I wanted to thank you for the inspiration and pure joy of seeing your creative process at work and how your Chilluns have turned out. Oh, and I also wanted to say, you have inspired me to use some of my mother's and grandmother's old linens that have frayed and some have holes - they are mostly antimacassars and doilies, but they have handmade tatting and lace on them, so I figured I can use the good pieces of linen for aprons or dresses and then just remove the tatting or lace and use as trimmings. I have to thank you for this inspiration, as I would kind of drive myself nuts a little bit every time I'd come across this stash and wonder how I would ever repair those well used and shredded linens. I also have remnants from a wool afghan my mother crocheted right after The War (WWII)and it was always on her bed, and whenever we kids were sick and had to lay on the couch all day, it was _the_ blanket that we snuggled under. Well, one day I was over at the house when my dad was still alive and I saw that afghan on an outside chair, covered with cat hair. Somehow dad had decided enough was enough with it and had given it over to the cat! Argh!!! So I rescued that afghan and took it home and washed it and of course, there were tears in it where the cat had done the "cha-cha" thing and I cut them off and have a lap size afghan now. A few years ago, I framed a square for each of the kids and put a verse on it and gave it to them for Christmas. And now, I am also inspired to use them for the Dollies - either for a blankie or a warm winter skirt. Anyhow, this has just been great and very inspiring. Thank you so much, Frannie, and all the FarmGirls who are participating! Hugs, Judy

Thought I'd share a photo of a really simple doll I did using Frannie's pattern a while back.

Frannie, sounds wonderful! I am going to go order Maryjanes magazine now. I was going to ask you about the naked unfinished body from you. I love to sew and could use just a pattern but I'd love to also get just a body from you too. My birthday is coming up soon and I am going to make one for myself.

Miz Frannie-
Please count me in too! Even though I have been making dolls for 30 years this sounds like way too much fun. I loved your "neked" babies, I made one similiar but sewed a heart on her with "I love Andy" embroider on her chest too! Too cute.
(i am "patiently" awaiting help from my sis to get some pictures on the site)
