I don't have a hot water bath canner and want to try making tea jelly today. Is there a way to make a water bath canner using things I might have in the kitchen or should I go to the hardware store and make the investment. I think they run about $30 here.
I've faked it before using a big stock pot and a sturdy round cake rack in the bottom. As long as you have enough clearance around the top, bottom, and sides of the jar for the appropriate amount of water to cover the jars, there's no difference.
I have even used a folded up hand towell in the bottom of the pot before. Alot of times if I am doing a real small batch of something I do that with a stock pot instead of getting out the big canners. Good luck!

I use my largest stock pot for canning all the time. It quite well. I can applesauce and cranberry sauce for gifts and to have on hand throughout the year. Good luck and happy canning
