for a 7days, at Christmas time. An Offer for chickens is at hand, If I take 4 hens that are 8 month old , (molting ) Can I leave, heat lamp on & plenty of water & feed to carry them through. They will be in a henhouse. We have nobody to come feed them..Or should I not take them.?

I personally would not take them. Too much risk of problems. With no one to check on them, and a heat lamp, you're just asking for an accident.

There are way more chickens in the world. When you return, begin your search again for some birds.

I just spoke to a neighbor across the road, They are leaving for Thanksgiving, we are going to watch their place, they said they would be around over Christmas, Do you think if they come check on the chickens they would be ok?

We have not asked them to do this yet, but they would only need to check on them once or twice a day don't ya think? We watched their place for a month this summer, We did not tend to any animals. They seem very friendly and told us to pick any apples they had while they were gone, I am only afraid this might be an imposition, but I guess we could ask them...before we get the hens...

I guess I must be something else, we have left our whole farm for 1 week, with extra feed and water and came back to it being ok. As for traveling with chickens, I am with those above, too risky.
We however, did not leave a heat lamp on, if they are chicks, then you must.
What to do...what about your neighbors...they cannot.
Chickens only have to be checked one time a day if that, how about every other day?
Good Luck....

A close call. Glad that you don't need to worry about your new chickens.
